OK, here it goes. My girlfriend talks a lot on the phone like I do. However, I always pay my bill.

She ran up a $550 bill with Sprint that she couldn't pay. They cancelled her account and now a bill collector has offered to settle the account for one half of the $550. Good deal so it seems and she can afford to pay it off.

But what about her credit reports. Should she call the bill collector back and demand deletion of the collections if she pays?

I told her to get it in writing from the bill collector and then pay.

    Need help.

P.S. - She could deny the whole thing and send a validation letter but that really isn't her style.

If they won't settle for deletion, she'll need to change her style.

Would she be better off sending them a validation letter and not admitting anything over the telephone?

Have you tried disputing the account tieh the CRA's ? After about two times it should come off.

Yeah, I disputed the entry from the CA for Sprint on all three reports and it came right off. They still call but I just ignore the calls and let them think that it is still showing up on the CR's.

It looks like no one has confidence that the bill collector will even agree to deletion. Also, that she may screw herself up by even talking to them.

So barring any other advice, she will ignore the bill collector and dispute and validate.

    thanx

Have you checked her CR's? I had a Sprint collection recently and it never showed up on my account.

After I started this process of cleaning up my credit, I called up Sprint and it turned out to be an inhouse collection dept. They also ended up accepting 2 payments as opposed to one lump sum.

See if she can call up Sprint and arrange a payment schedule...over 3 months or so...if she can or wants to. Otherwise, see if Sprint's in house collection dept will accept a partial payment.

I just got her the contact telephone numbers at the CRA's to check her credit before anything is done.

Funny thing is that she doesn;'t see the angles on this collection account. Probably because I haven't told her about Creditnet - yet.

I need to do with her what was done with me. Lead her to the computer and show her what's what here on the forum. Then she will understand credit.
