First of all, I wanted to say thanks to all of your for the wealth of information you have provided for me in just the last couple of days. My wife and I are looking to buy a home and there are some things I need to get off my credit file until I can do that. The guy I am working with on the mortgage made it sound as though it were easy, but after getting back my first round of investigations with only some success, I can see it is going to take longer. This is a great board. Anyway, on to the questions: 1. Is there a way to check the status of an Equifax online? I know you can start one online (which they made pretty difficult to locate) but I would like to see what is going on. 2. What agency does eloan use to make up their credit score? 3. Which agency is the hardest to get older stuff removed from and is contacting them by phone to have items removed worth the time and effort? Thanks! Jay
For the status of Equifax investigations you can: 1. Wait for them to contact you (I know...) 2. Subscribe to their Credit Watch service (best way) 3. Subscribe to Privista 4. Call them Eloan uses TU for the free scores they provide. As far as which CRA is the most difficult -- you'll get a different answer from everyone depending on what's going on for them personally. For me it's been Equifax. Experian used to be the best for me but they've tightened up quite a bit recently. I thought TU was going to be the hardest but they've turned out to be the agency I've had the most success with. Good luck on your home purchase. I started here a year ago in the same boat and am now in the process of buying a home.
Eloan pulls TU for the free credit score, but if you apply for a loan with them, they pull Experian. L
