I've read some of the post and a bit confused. Can some post the basic steps and the timimg of the letters, to dispute informaton. Do you send the first letter to the CRA or to the original creditor for validation?? Should you work on all three reports at the same time or one at a time?? What are the points of negoitation with CA and CC companies on charge-off?? Thanks for all the help, I'm new to this trying to get organized. Thanks mburris
I'd start by disputing accounts with the CRAs as not mine. I noticed you just joined this board in the last few days. Do yourself a favor. Read this board for a few weeks and fully understand what you are undertaking. I've seen too many people find this board and immediately jump in head-first only to find out they didn't understand what they were doing. They wind up making unrecoverable mistakes. I read this board for 2 months before I began my repair quest. Even at that, I made some mistakes along the way. There are really no set negotiation points per se. Each case/account is different based on amounts owed, age of account, willingness of creditor to sue you, etc. Post on this board what you've got on your report and we can help you from there.
I'm following your advice about reading everything first so I don't make avoidable mistakes in correcting my credit. But is it okay to go ahead now and order my credit reports from the three largest CRA's now so I know what I'm dealing with? What is the best way to order these reports? Can I get them free?
For credit reapir purposes, it's best to subscribe to: http://www.creditexpert.com for Experian http://www.equifax.com (order CreditWatch for Equifax) http://www.transunion.com (order and view your report online. When asked, just say you've been denied credit in last sixty days and you should get it for free online) If need be, order your reports through the mail and just pay the $9 each to get started.
