some places say if u pull ur credit report ('soft' inq) it doesn't affect ur score, other places say the exact opposite...

what is the truth? i want to monitor my credit score (like pulling it ever 2-3 months) but i don't want to adversely affect it by pulling it too much. sooo, the $1,000,000 question is, "Does pulling my own credit report affect my credit score??" Could I check all 3 providers (Experian, Equifax, TU) every month without affecting it?? What's the deal.

The answer is NO, your personal inquiries don't show up to everybody that looks at your report.

I pulled out the paperwork I received with my credit report and here is what it says......

<<The following inquiries are NOT reported to businesses:

PRM - This type of inquiry means that only your name and address were given to a credit grantor so they could offer you an application for credit. (PRM inquiries remain for twelve months).

AM or AR - these inquiries indicate a periodic review of your credit history by one of your creditors. (AM and AR inquires remain for twelve months).

Credit Bureau Inquiries - These inquiries indicate our activity in response to your contact with us for either a copy of your credit report or a request for research.

PRM, AM, AR and Credit Bureau inquiries do NOT show on credit reports that business receive, only on copies provided to you.>>

well i dont really mind if other people who pull my report can see if *I* pulled my report. but does pulling my report lower my score? esp. if you pull it often..ie, can u pull it like 2x/yr with no effect, but anything more than that hurts it?

From what I have read and heard over the months...... No, it doesn't do any harm to your score. No one sees it but you so it doesn't affect anything. Thank goodness or we all would be in deeper than what we already are. Hope this helps answer your question.
