Someone (I suspect a jerk I used to work with) stole my MBNA credit card number and basically made $400 of XXX type charges. I found out when my card was about $2 close to the max, but through extra cash payment MBNA didn't make it over the limit and closed the account as stolen and will reissue the card. I also have to sign an affidavit, which is fine, because I KNOW I don't buy online and phone porno How will this affect my report?
When the Psycho next door cancelled 2 of my cards, they reported lost/stolen. It kind of improved my scores in a way. They were both positive trades, and the new issues are positive trades. So it looks like 4 positive trades instead of 2. Sorry to hear about it, sucks, you know?
I have several reported lost or stolen, where online customer databases were hacked, and the merchant was kind enough to notify the customers. No harm that I can tell. All are counted as positive accounts.
If somebody "LOOKS" with their EYES and sees 3 or 4 LOST/STOLEN cards...THEY WILL ASSUME YOU WERE AT FAULT and MAY be DENIED credit for some companies!!! If only ONE...no biggie...
Why only one? I'm just curious. If your wallet gets stolen, you are perceived to be at fault? But if some hacker jacks one of your cards you're in the clear?
I don't think I've had any repercussions, George. I was concerned about it at first, also. I didn't have any choice, IMO. Better to report the card stolen than to wait and let fraudulent charges show up.
It just LOOKS bad if you have a BUNCH of cards LOST/STOLEN...they MAY think their card will be LOST/STOLEN...so they WON'T approve you...
