everytime I think I've managed to make significant progress on eliminating credit card debt, I find out that my husband has opened other credit card/other accounts and putting my name on them with his. I've been told by the cc companies that I am still responsible for the debt, even tho I had no knowledge of it , nor did I consent to any of it. How can I stop him from doing that (without divorcing him)?
FRAUD ALERT ON YOUR CREDIT REPORTS... But that will KILL any chance of YOU getting any credit too (with-out going through a bunch of HASSLE)!!!
I think there are some marriage issues here that we at creditnet aren't qualified to comment on, but beyond that, as far as I know it's necessary for a joint account holder or even an authorized user to sign the credit agreement. Assuming you have no knowledge of these accounts, this almost certainly means that your husband forged your signature. It may be possible to get out of the obligation by claiming fraud, but that will very likely get your husband in legal trouble. Unless you're going through with a divorce, I can't imagine that would be what you want. Also, if you live in a community property state, then your husband's debts are your debts, whether you are on the contract or not. Brett
Re: Re: stop hubby getting cc's in my name? I HAVE SIGNED UP FOR CREDIT FOR MY WIFE (ON-LINE)...I DIDN'T SIGN ANYTHING!!! Since I pay 100% of ALL BILLS...she does not care...(SHE GAVE PERMISSION LONG AGO) ONLY PROBLEM SHE HAS IS..."TALK TO MY HUSBAND"...SOMETIMES THEY SAY WE CAN'T...SHE SAYS YOU WILL TALK TO HIM OR CLOSE THE ACCOUNT!!! "HE PAYS ALL THE BILLS AND HAS ALL THE ANSWERS...I TALK ON THE PHONE AT WORK 40-50 HOURS PER WEEK...MY FEE IS $1.00 PER MIN ARE YOU WILLING TO CREDIT MY ACCOUNT FOR MY FEE"???
