I have a JC Penny that is 10+ yrs. old with no negs. on it at all. I haven't used it in 5+ yrs. It is a wonder they haven't closed it by now, but my question is should I for pos. activity for fico as TU shows it open but inactive on my FICO report, the others don't.

Make a small purchase to show some activity. Ideally, all cards should be used every three months or so . . .

If you can use it still, I agree with apex. Use it, pay it off, and it will most likely help your score.

I know some credit card issuers will close your account automatically if it is inactive for long periods of time. I see it at the one I work for all the time. The only drawback is that they show, Closed By Creditor on your report instead of Closed By Customer. If you plan to leave it open I would follow the purchase advice above as soon as possible.

I have the same issue with a Mervyn's card I have had since 2000. Problem is they have closed all of thier Texas stores and have no online store. They keep reporting positive every month. I would love to keep it just for the positive tradeline but I can't jet to Caliefornia just to use it! Lol

Mervyns has locations all over the USA, it is huge. No reason you have to cross the USA to use your card. Have you called their toll free number and asked to have them ship something inexpensive to you and bill it to you account?

I think it would be worth the effort.
