I know this has been posted before but I cannot find it. Who is it that I have to contact to do the student loan consolidation for the Stafford loans? Is there a deadline in order to get the low interest rate?

    Thanks

Go to www.salliemae.com and click on the 'smartloan' button. Worked for me, consolidated four studen loans from three different providers. NO credit check, took less than 5 days to complete the entire process. I am happy with it (although never been a big fan of Sallie Mae)

    Try this link. http://www.ed.gov/DirectLoan/

I consolidated earlier this year with the dept of ed and have been very happy since. Interest rate reductions for on time payments and direct withdrawal.

    Tom,

I consolidated before my loans came out of default. If you are in default, rehabilitate first and then consolidate. I consolidated with William D Ford. (US Dept of Ed) My current interest rate is about 5% and payment rate is about 5.5% Better than my credit cards. There is no deadline unless you are looking to get federal financial aid. Then your loans must be out of default (rehabbed fully or consolidated). Good Luck!
