Currently $20,000 but adding $18,500 for graduate school. Payments are $175.00 per month. Currently, it was not worth it based on my income, but I did it more for a personal goal than for a big high-paying job. I took 5 years off and did my college "non-traditionally", and I am getting my masters not because I have to, but because I want to, the program really interested me. I think those students who buy into the collge = big money will be VERY disapointed. Big money only goes to those who are willing to work hard for it, degree or no degree.

Currently almost 50k. My payments are deferred, but if they weren't, they would total almost $500.

I am adding about 20k more for the upcoming school year.

    My education was worth it.

My son owes $18,000. Pays about $225 a month. Makes about $40,000 one year out of school as an artist.

My wife makes $33,000 a year as a math teacher with many years of experience and a masters degree.

So I have to say my sons loans were worth it. It enabled him to go to a top notch private art school.

$111K......that is for 8 years. I dont even know if it was worth it anymore. Especially when I have a day like today.

My payments would be $1500/ mo minimum if I hadnt consolidated. The dept of ed william d ford plan has me paying much, much less.

    tom65432,

I must be doing something wrong here. I am an artist with 5 years experience in Pittsburgh, PA and am only making just over $30K. What city does your son work in?

    Andrew:

He works in Baltimore. He could make a lot more working for Disney (where he worked before) but does not like the big corporate structure.

I have roughly $50000 in student loans.

    Monthly payments roughly $1000.

It was well worth it... 4 years out of school making $105000 in a non-computer field.

I have a BS in biology and wanted to get into the pharmaceutical industry, however, after graduating in 98, I have still no luck landing a job. I've looked and applied everywhere without success. UGHHH. Very Frustrating!!!

I want the six-figure job too.. BA Sociology/Criminal Justice 1995..$8K - supposed to be going to law school (hopefully 2002)

Diret Loan program - 47.23/mth...Jeez, I could take one paycheck and pay the whole thing off!!! Help us land a job there. Any internal postings you want to let us in on?

Getting into the pharmaceutical industry is not an easy task (I'm referring to the top R&D Pharma companies)... It took me 3 years to break into the system.

My advice is two-fold: remain persistant - I was turned down at least 10 times (not just applying, but interviewing too) before cracking the system.

Secondly, i think it will be more difficult without getting an advanced degree. Not to burst your bubble, but there are a dime and dozen people with a BS in Biology. I think you may need to beef up your educational level with at least a Masters degree.

It's well worth the effort. The pay and benefits are unmatchable.
