Ok, I disputed 14 things on my 3 credit reports, and 12 things got deleted, 1 got updated as never late, and 1 verified. The most damaging thing on my credit reports now is 10 student loans that were 2 times 90+ days late (90,120). I received a retroactive forbearance to cover the dates months that are reported late. I have written and received a letter confirming that I was in forebearance then. I am in forebearance now (until November 14th), and just completed a request to consolidate my loans July 3rd. Now what is the best angle to approach this as far as getting the loans lined up as paid, never late? Do I wait until after the present forbearance period? Do I try and hit the CRA first or Nelnet? What kind of (with what tone?) letter should I write? Just give me a little direction
It sounds like you're in good shape. If the loans were in forbearance (is this the same as deferred?) you did not owe any money for those months. Thus, there could be no late payment on $0 owed... My recommendation is to just send the proof of forbearance with a generic "not late" dispute letter. I would keep it simple (think like you are speaking to a child...) in the dispute: "I am writing to dispute the reported late payments on my credit report for acct######. This account is a student loan, and was in forbearance for these dates. Since no payment was due, there was no late payment. Please update your files..."
This has happened to me...with Sallie Mae as soon as I got the forbearance they updated my credit reports. Has your lender indicated that they've done this? I would call them first to ask that question, and then just dispute the tradeline with the CRA, they should come back with the updated information. Then you wouldn't have to write any letter - and wait around for the response...
I have a similar situation. I got the forebearance due to me losing my job at the time.. however, by the time I sent the forebearance form, I was already late. But they ended up giving me the forebearance for the 3 months I needed (starting from the time I lost my job) Should I send the forebearance proof to the CRAs?
I doubt the CRA would take something the consumer sent in as proof of incorrect reporting. Again, I would just call the lender - explain what's happening and ask them to update their reporting. Then I would just go ahead and dispute w/ the CRA.
I faxed in a goodwill letter a few weeks ago, but never heard anything back. Before faxing it, I confirmed their fax number, but didnt send it to anyone in particular. So right now I'm not sure who has it...if they actually got it... if I should call them... or to just go ahead and dispute it with the CRAs. I'm confused
Well, I have discussed the late removal with a regular customer service person, but they were like when we recieved the forbearance request so we cannot help you. If that is the policy, then why make it retroactive? Maybe I should call and ask to speak to a supervisor? So dispute now, while in forbearance and send a copy of the forbearance confirmation letter with dispute?
I was just wondering whatever happened to all of you. I have the exact same situation. The forbearance brought the account current, but I was already late, so they won't change it on my reports. How did all of you fare? I'm trying to figure out what I can do!
TU deleted both accounts. I guess it's just easier for them to do that then to actually do a real investigation. Oh well, I'm still better off than before... I'll probably let this go for now, see what else happens.
TU deleted both of ours too. I'm wondering how they will be reported when they finally rereport them. I wonder if the lates will be back? EXP deleted the lates, but EQ verified. I hate SL's, and I hate the forbearances. I'm so frustrated right now!!! Thanks for the update though!
