Has anyone had any luck getting late pays removed/updated on their credit reports? I have a couple of loans from Sallie Mae and US Dept of Ed that show a couple of 60 day lates. I am wondering if anyone had tried a goodwill phone call or letter. Thanks for the info. Mike
Sallie Mae sucks. you can try pfb or ask for a goodwill adjustment, but they don't seem to care much. Your best bet is probably to keep disputing til they throw in the towel.
I have tried every which way to get Sallie Mae to remove late pays and have had no success whatsoever. Goodwill letters, sob stories, etc I even attempted a homemade rehab agreement with them. I tried to get them to agree if I made 12 on time(in addition to the 2 years of ontime payments I have already made) payments to remove the late pays to no avail. I was late a bunch of times in 1997-1998 and they refuse to make any accomodation. The loans were initially with USA Group and I had heard that since the late pays were when the loan was with USA Group that Sallie Mae wouldn't verify on dispute but no luck. I think all you can do is wait for them to fall off at 7 years. If you have any luck please post your strategy.
They are the worst. they won't adjust. Your only hope is to do this: consolidate with the william d ford direct loans. get out of sallie mae. then, once that's completed (you'll get a better fixed interest rate anyway)... change your home address. once your home address is changed, dispute Sallie Mae. With a paid in full account and a changed address, you have a chance of it deleting. TU took 4 disputes and it dropped. On experian, this will KILL your score because Experian will report you as ALWAYS late forever... they don't disclose the "current status" on your report but your creditors will not only see the late in your history but will also see a late in your current status... even once the loan is paid in full. A crock. I think this alone could generate a lawsuit since a paid in full loan can't be currently late.. but that's up to your risk tolerance. paid sallie may off, change your address, dispute... lawsuit worst case scenario...
