I recently sent a dispute letter to one of my student loan providers (State of Texas for a Hinson-Hazlewood loan) because they are reporting late payments when my loan was actually in forbearance. They refused to remove the lates stating that it is against their policy and it is irresponsible to change correctly reported info. Do I have a leg to stand on since it was an issue of getting my paperwork in on time, rather than simply not paying, and that when I did get my paperwork in, they brought the loans to current status? Has anybody had any luck getting derogs removed form this particular creditor ? Thanks!
braindead If you were late when you applied for the forebearance, then the servicer has the right to show you as being late. While a forebearance can bring your account current, it is not designed to remove accurate lates. fla-tan
Thanks for your input! I was hoping they would play nice and remove them since they are all several years old and I have not been late since my loan has been in repayment. Thanks to the advice on this site, I am about 50/50 using the "goodwill letter" to remove old derogs.
