I have a student loan from 92 that I am still paying on. I have been in communiction with them (Sallie Mae) and established a percentage payback so I am paying them $50/month instead of $175. They email me as well as send stuff via snail mail but do not have my new phone number (we switched when we went to Vonage). So, my question is: can they mail my 89 year old grandmother a letter demanding my SS #, address, phone, employer, employer phone, etc.? I called them and asked why they felt the need to mail her instead of me and the guy kept saying it's a Federal law that they need an address and a phone number. Again, I say why can't you mail me instead of my grandmother? He responded that I was free to call back "when I was in a better mood." :/ Mind you, I was extremely civil and never raised my voice to him. I ended up telling him to cease and desist discussing my affairs with anyone other than myself and hung up. Thoughts?
