Hey CN's, I've been here for a couple weeks and enjoy all the info! I have a big problem though: Student Loans. No, I don't have a problem with paying them, but they ALL went into default a couple years ago. Between moving all over the country and going to three different colleges there are about 9 student loans and most of them came out of deferral (don't have to pay while enrolled as a student) three summers ago without my knowing. I guess there were some notices/bills sent that I did not receive due to them being sent to an old address. Anyway, I finally was contacted and have been paying them ALL for the past two years. They even came out of default and are all rolled into one loan through American Education Services (NOT the original OCs). My question is: Is it fair to ask the OCs to delete their stuff from my CR? They all show up as "charged off - bad debt" and that can't possibly be a good thing. It sure would be nice to get rid of NINE bad TLs, huh? (Not to mention all the 30, 60, 90, 120-day lates) Thanks!
Yup, I did. They are with an entirely different company now though. So I have the 9 (or so) charge-offs and now 2 that are open and current/pays account as agreed.
Well, the department of ED will tell you that rehab will take off the original holders remarks and not anyone elses. However, mine came off of my reports after I rehabbed the loans. I did dispute some of them off to get them off faster. I can't really give you any specific advice until I know what organization the accounts are listed for. Can you reply with the company names? 30ft
Let's see....we have SunTrust Bank, Edsouth, Ntional Collegiate and AES (for some reason TU shows this as CO (with the WRONG $$ amount), the EX and EQ report it correctly as open/currect). Sheesh, the more I look at this the more disarray it appears to be in. It seems as though TU has "open" on some that are "closed" and has "closed" on a few that are actually open. Does TU smoke crack?!?!? They have almost exact opposites for the (correct) TL's that are shown on EX and EQ. The AES for darn sure should NOT be listed as a CO. What the heck do I do from here, verify with the CRAs? Dispute as "not mine"?
You're not kidding about the tangle mess those things leave on reports. Sounds like yours are like mine were before I rehabbed. I don't recognize the names as anyone who is particularly staunch about verifying disputed accounts. To be honest, I disputed mine as "Rehabilitated" and some as wrong balance. They all wound up coming off. Some of them were verified, and just dissappeared after a couple of months. If you don't feel comfortable with saying they're not yours, you can also dispute as "I have no account with this information." 30ft
30ft, Thanks for the info. I had NO IDEA that the old accounts shouldn't show up negative after the rehab. I just sent in my disputes (as "rehabilitated") to the 3 CRAs. I'll let you know what happens. Hopefully that will help my woeful ~540 scores!
