I have student loans that I defaulted on. I am now in a postition to repay them. i have a perkins loan that my school held and stafford loans and have not paid on either. a collection agent called to say that my perkins loan is up for litigation review and would i like to consolidate. I said yes. After I got the paperwork back from Direct Loans, i realize that rehabiltion would be a better deal because the defaults would be cleared away after 12 months. I called the stafford loan people and set up payments to start the process and cancelled those. my question is can i rehabilitate the perkins loan which is now with a collection agency and cancel the consolidation on that loan too?

I don't have the answer but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Could you call the school that holds the Perkins note and ask them? I find them to be very knowledgeable.

    Worth a try.
