I recently disputed a late pay from 4 years ago on an AT&T Universal card. EXP and EFX both removed the late and updated the account. Somehow TU managed to supposedly verify the late eventhough the other two couldn't! How dumb is that! Am I able to redispute for the same exact reason with TU and see if they'll verify again?
Ask the CRA for the NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE # of the person that they VERIFIED with so you can contact them yourself... As far as I was told...only ONE person has AUTHORITY to verify and/or change the way an account is reporting... MOST OF THE TIME THE CRA DOESN'T REALLY VERIFY...they just ASSUME you won't fight it!!!
A very similar thing happened to me--a deletion of EQ & EX and not TU. Redisputed, TU reverified. I had already been through the process of sending validation letters which this creditor never responded to. This was my account, but everything about it was reporting wrong! So, I redisputed a third time. On the 30th day, TU verified the account. I sent an email to Don Richman, Director of consumer Affairs, TU. Some others on this board had some pretty decent luck getting their issue resolved through Mr. Richman. I sent a letter detailing exactly what had transpired with this issue. My basic question was "How can TU verify an account that no one else can; furthermore, how can they verify this account that the creditor can't even call up in their system by account number, name, or social?" Mr. Richman sent me an email back after a week and said "we are sending you a copy of your credit report dated 5/21/02 and the name and address of where this creditor can be reached." What? All he was sending me was ANOTHER copy of the third dispute (the one that was answered on day 30) along with another form letter giving me their partial address for the creditor. I KNOW THEY DID NOT VERIFY THIS ACCOUNT! I have kept meticulous records of our correspondence. I think I am going to sue them. Mr. Richman was very careful in his email to say that "every effort has been undertaken to assure that TU complies with the FCRA on this issue." I am sure what that means is "we have back dated all verification on this creditor to make sure that there is a paper trail in place if you sue us." Actually, I may just submit another dispute, not involve Mr. Richman and sue them when they verify it on the 4th time. This is such crap and a waste of time!!
"I NEED THE EXACT NAME, PHONE #, ADDRESS OF THE PERSON WHO YOU CONTACTED TO VERIFY THIS...DO NOT SEND ANY FORM LETTER GIVING ME "RE-HASHED" GARBAGE THAT DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS" "IF YOU WON'T DO THE ABOVE, PLEASE AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVINCE MAIL ME A CHECK FOR $1,000.00 TO SAVE US BOTH THE TROUBLE OF GOING TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT".
