Are you in a credit union or do you have one you can join ? My credit union credit card is awesome, fees are like $10, interest is 8%, I got it after watching CNN in the money and they were talking about how reasonable credit union credit cards were. They werenâ??t lying, CUâ??s donâ??t nickel and dime you with the fees, and they have other sources of income, etc. There are some big credit unions like digital FCU that have a ton of member companies and some cities and municipalities have credit unions that take just about any one for membership. I would strongly suggest you check out their web site and credit card offers.

If you have an orchard card, you might want to check household or HSBC's web site they sent me offers all the time for 0% 1 year on purchases and balance transfers when I left Orchard. If not them I would check out citicards.com, they always have 0% on balance transfers offers and I have found citi to be a good credit card company from my experience and they have a ton of cards and card offers.

I can see that there are some good offers out there, but what are their standard? how do you know if a particular card will turn down an app?

You can call and ask about their guidelines, but there is no way to know for sure except to apply.

you might want to check out creditcards.com they have the cards sorted from no credit history, fair to excellent. I never used their scale or applied for a card using the site so I can't tell you how accurate it is

Creditnet's Credit Card section shows cards based on credit level as well. Click on the link in my signature or on the Credit Cards tab up above.

I would take our Mod's advice here. You want to have at least a set of guidelines to operate under.

If you do fall within AMEX's range, apply for Blue, Blue Cash, or Clear. You're not going to beat a 4.99 rate for the life of the balance.
