Hi. My DH had an american general account. This is how it is reporting on his report from EQ:

    Date opened: 03/95
    Date of Last Activity: 03/97
    Status: I1
Previous Payment History: 3x60 days late
    Previous Status: 01/97 I-3; 10/96 I3; 09/96 I3

    Paid Account, Zero balance

How should I dispute this? Should I first just try to dispute it with EQ as not mine or never paid late? Which one would be the hardest of the two for them to verify?

Should I send anything directly to them?

    Thanks for the help.

If you first dispute it as never late, then it could be said you have basically self verified that it is yours.

Start with the CRAs. Maybe it will disappear the easy way.

I would dispute it as not mine. If that doesn't work then I would try incorrect balance history, never late, etc. The Evil EXP will fight hard on this one. I'm currently locked in a battle with evil EXP. Good Luck. I did get American General of my TU and EQ by disputing it.

I had American General lates when I was starting out. I had loans with three different offices. I wrote a letter to the local offices where I had my loans asking them to remove the lates.

One office complied and one office told me they couldn't locate my file. I disputed the one that told me they couldn't locate and <poof> -- it was deleted. The third deleted after I contacted them on PlanetFeedback.

Update: Just received word from Equifax that they deleted the account!
