I just received a summons for civil court from a credit card company over a $6126.49 bill plus interest of $729.10.

I don't have any money to pay or negotiate this, or even hire an attorney. Do I have any options in this situation?

Any advice on what my next steps should be, would be greatly appreciated.

How old is the debt? What state are you in? You need to see if this debt is in or out of statute first.

Who is suing you--the original creditor or a collection agency.

With those answers we can help you decide how to proceed.

You need to show up, regardless. Otherwise they will get a default judgment.

I was unable to make payments starting in 0ct 2006. According to the summons "The above balance was due, and demand for payment was made, on or before December 14, 2007."

    I live in Kansas.

The original creditor is suing me.

Do I need to actually show up - or can I send a letter in response?

Thank you for responding to this.
