DOC - does this mean that cc companies won't be able to get soft inquiries for credit promo offers?

Mark, I don't know, but it will be interesting to find out. I do understand that reselling client lists is a big source of revenue for these privacy-invading scumbags. :)

Rina, whatever helps you get through the night.

I think this was relating to the fact that they wanted to SELL your information to ANYBODY...(OTHER THAN CREDIT RELATED COMPANIES)...

I also liked the other news at the BOTTOM...NEW YORK CITY...can DISCRIMINATE AGAINST "WORKING FAMILIES" IN PUBLIC HOUSING...

So the young couple make just barely above minimum wage with a young kid, CAN'T LIVE THERE...BECAUSE THEY ARE WORKING??? THE NOT WORKING GETS FIRST CHOICE???

No, George, read the article. It specifically addresses Trans Union's desire to sell lists of qualified consumers to "LENDERS"... :)

The more I read about this ruling, the happier I become. Trans Union could be driven out of business from resultant lawsuits (source: The U.S. Supreme Court). Note these paragraphs from Bizreport.com:

Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony M. Kennedy issued a written dissent, saying they would have heard the case because of the implication for Trans Union, which could face bankruptcy from a tide of lawsuits over the release of consumer information.

"The company's demise will have adverse effects on both the national economy and (Trans Union's) thousands of employees," Kennedy wrote for the pair. "The case is of national importance..."

Now wouldn't that be sad. One less CRA to dispute.

The article stated that only these two Justices -- O'Connor and Kennedy -- came out in favor of Trans Union. The rest voted against. Plus, President Bush's administration filed a brief opposing Trans Union as well. Oh, I'm crying buckets for Trans Union. :)

Found this last night, if you're for some reason not qualified to lend to, they'll offer you up to skip tracers, collection agencies, and the like.
