I am debating on getting a tmobile wireless phone and I need to know what CRA they check and if anyone knows what score I need to not to have to pay a deposit?

I don't want to order it online and find out there is a deposit...anyone know how they work? IE: Do they run my credit info and give me a choice to take the phone with a deposit or does it automatically charge the deposit to my CC. I don't want to give them my CC number and find out they charged a deposit to it.

    Thanks!

    I paid a DEPOSIT...

At the time we got our 1st 2 of 4 phones---people were saying that they had to PAY A DEPOSIT with good credit...

THE LAST THING I WANTED WAS A "HARD" AND A DEPOSIT...SO I JUST CHARGED THE DEPOSIT ON THE CREDIT CARD...(GOT MILEAGE)

They sent a check for the refund...

    Iambroke,

Totally stay away from TMobile. They are ranked dead last in customer service. Just about 2 weeks ago, they TOTALLY lost ALL voicemail messages for thousands of customers.

    Stay away, they suck.

My sister has TMobile and consistently gets overcharged because they have billing errors generated by their auto-billing. Last month they overcharged her $300 even though she only had about 20 local phone calls.

    Mike,

What wireless carrier do you recommend then?
I'm not sure who to go with.

    Thanks!

Cingular, SprintPCS, or Nextel are the better carriers in your region for billing, customer service, and products.

You might want to also review specials each is having for their products.

Sprint has always worked well for me.

Thank you so much for ideas!

I did look at sprint and their phones are like 150 to buy....expensive to me when I've had At&T and the phone was free with activation.

T-Mobile pulled Transunion on me a year and a half ago, no idea what my score was then, although it wasn't good. Had to pay a deposit. I can honestly say I haven't had a bad experience with them, but we're going to switch to Verizon in December. My in-laws are moving to an area with no T-Mobile coverage, and if you think my wife will let me keep T-Mobile, well, let's just say that dog won't hunt :)

Wow,,,someone said something good about SPRINT!!

They suck big time over here in Ga & Sc...at least for my family and friends. Coverage is bad off the main highways and customer services doesn't exist because it is VERY poor.

I'm in Michigan, and they checked TU. Had scores of low 600's. No deposit. I have the family plan like George, and I haven't had any problems w/ them.

    • I'm in NY. Have them for about 3 years (they were VoiceStream then).

      No deposit.
      No inquiries at all.
      No problems so far.

My score in TU is high 600's...my best score out of all 3 CRA's....Equifax is low 600's and forget experian as it's like 587!!! And the weird thing is I have NO negatives, nothing that would affect the score..just can't figure it out.

    • What percentage of your LOC are you using? If it's more than 30%, that could be the reason. I have no negatives, I'm using about 72% of my total LOC and my score is 676 [EX], 669 [EQ], 686 [TU], ...

78% utilization....but I've paid off 3 cards too within the past month so it may help.

    • That's your answer ... :)

Also, how old is your oldest account? That's another part of the puzzle.

I have an account from 97 on there and one from 98 but most are from 2000 +

I know once I get my cards paid down it will help.
I have 3 more to go!!!

Comming from one of their longer-time customers, let me say that I've NEVER had a problem with T-Mobile. Cingular and Sprint don't seem to have 24hr customer service. In addition to that, I've never lost a voicemail or anything with them. In fact in California, they piggy back on Cingular and AT&T. So if you have either of those and like your coverage, you get the same thing with T-Mobile. I imagine they do it all through the USA. I personally know my phone works in both Mexico, Canada and Europe. Same number too! If you plan on traveling, it's probably a good phone to have since it piggy backs on most GSM networks and doesn't roam.

Cingular has too many billing problems. You can't charge me $3000 for calls made 2 minutes apart from each other, IE my question to them was how could I be in California at 10:00am and then make a call from NY two minutes later?

GSM phones can be hacked and already have been. There are tons of simcard reader/writers out there. Just like with any other techonology (INCLUDING SPRINT, I can clone a sprint phone in 10 minutes), I'd say at this point it all comes down to what plan fits you the best. I've been with them all (literally) and I can say that for my money T-Mobile is the best thus far.
