Hi, I'm trying to fix my hubbys credit history and so far what I did was pulled all 3 reports, so now we know what's on there. TU Score 557 Adverse accounts 4 Revolving acct: 4times 60d 1time 30d, but for past 6 mths never late open phone bill cancelled by credit Grantor payment after charge off/collection paid off 2002 Inst. acct: 5 times 30d late closed 00 Inst. acct: 1 time 90 days, 4 times 60 days, 6 times 30 days closed 99 Satisfactory accounts 7 all never late and paid as agreed 6 closed or paid off 1 inst. acct. open 9 inquiries EX Score 577 Potentially negative revolving acct 4 times 60d late, 1 time 30d late, but for past 6 months never late open inst. acct. 6 times 30 d late paid 00 inst. acct. 1 time 30 d late paid 01 inst. acct 1 time 90 d late 3 times 60 d late 7 times 30 d late (but mths are twice?!) paid in 99 Good standing acctounts inst. acct. open/never late revolving acct. paid/never late revolving acct open/never late 13 credit inquiries EQ score (didn't get it yet) revolving acct. paid off R9 revolving acct. open R1 4 times 60 d late / 1 time 30 d late last 6 mths never late open accts two O2 inst. accts one I2 three I1 (one says paid) one I (doesn't have a number but says paid) inquiries 32!! Well that's how it looks right now. My questions are: -The installment acct on EQ and EX that says 1 time 30 days late was for our old car. The car company who bought it from us was supposed to take care of that payment and we signed the contract to sell the car to them actually 1 months before the reported late date. What we are supposed to do?? -What about these preapproved offers from Capitol One? They don't touch your credit report, cause they already selected you? -I have an offer from citi, but i don't know if I should apply. What if I don't qualify, that just boosts up my inquiries even more right? -How easy is it to get these store cards, Target etc.? We tried for Circuit City in February and got denied, but back then we didn't have so many positive stuff on the report, yet. That just all came in in april. Should I try again? -I printed out the list, so I can see which CC or store pulls which report. What do you think with what report would I have the best chances to qualify for a store card or even CC? Thanks sooooo much for your time and help. We are just getting into all this and we just don't want to make mistakes again. Steph & Gary

They don't touch your credit report, cause they already selected you? they pull "SOFT" inquiries that are supposed to be seen only by you and debatably not factored into your score when they pull your report for this purpose..they usually code them as PRM (promotional) inquiries...does NOT guarantee an approval -I have an offer from citi, but i don't know if I should apply. What if I don't qualify, that just boosts up my inquiries even more right? you or your H? -How easy is it to get these store cards, Target etc.? We tried for Circuit City in February and got denied, but back then we didn't have so many positive stuff on the report, yet. That just all came in in april. Should I try again? some are easier than others...especially when you go in and apply during purchase time but some are only branded cards NOT "store" cards like "retail accounts" and are actually VISA or MC so they are treated as credit cards and are just as hard to get. -I printed out the list, so I can see which CC or store pulls which report. What do you think with what report would I have the best chances to qualify for a store card or even CC? not sure I would go by that...you will end up burning costly inquiries...instead ask the company what score they reject before you apply...compare with the scores you get (but use as a guide because your scores are usually different that the scores they get...then before you apply post here and find out what others had when/if they got or were denied the card.
I think the last thing you want to do is apply for more credit. Those inquiries have more of an impact than you think. The capital one 'preapproved' offers are good to go for. They won't pull a hard. Just be sure it's 'preapproved' & not 'preselected'. Others will come trickling in. I got a preapproval offer from JC Penneys. It's hard to, but just wait for them to come to you. I would also do the 'nutcase' letter on his paid accounts with lates. Do a search for 'nutcase letter'. I would use this to get rid of your closed with derogs. They seem easier to get off than the open with derogs. That's just a starting point. You'll pick up alot more as you spend time here. Good luck!
I never saw Dave's reply before I posted. I'm going to go check out that letter he's talking about. Sounds like a good start.
