This happened to me June 2 2002--called Target after receiving the denial letter from equifax's inability to verify credit information. Representative had to pull my original application out of archives--it had only been 26 days-so after careful review I was told to re-apply but with the actual paper application(found in the store) as their website system uses some sort of credit report match and if everything does not match with what the report shows(down to abbreviations punctuation etc....it will give a denial, but evidentally when applying the conventional paper way, due to their data entry it provides complete comprehensive results)

Update Target called Friday July 12 to let me know I was approved with a Target Visa--equifax-re-inquired on 7/12/02, dropping my fico a whopping 12 points to 650--had a considerable increase in June (prbably due to paying down student loans and current credit obligations and aging of accts) but then the score on 7/10/02 was at 662 and when I got the email from equifax credit watch last Friday it showed score of 650...only 4 inq on my report 2 from Target 1 From AEP (electric co--due to my recent independence of moving out for the first time-and applying for utilities in my own name) and the other was from Ameritech phone company same as inquiry about the electric...so each time I applied thru Target they nailed me with a hard inq both on 6/2/02 and another on 7/12/02. I have considered PFB them since it was due to their systems margin of error, not verifying proper address-the other two AEP and Ameritech could not be helped unless of course I wanted to live without electricity and phone service...also to run off topic for a second or two...

I thought it was illegal but when I called these utility companies for new service I provided them with all my personal information over the phone, but never once did they say they were pulling a credit report, but I just assumed they would to check to see if the report has any past dues etc, which it does not for current accts, so when they said NO DEPOSITS I assumed they pulled but never did they actually say "With your permission I need to pull a credit report etc etc".....can anyone provide me with the legalities on this --as I might want to push the issue with those companies on a case by case basis-provided they would not cut me off their services while disputing...off track anyhow
Today July 19, 2002 after a 5 day return from vacation I find my new shiny Target Visa Smart card ready for activation with 1,000 limit and 15.9% which for me isnt bad as many of my current cards are higher but should I still call to get the next lower tier(considering i dont revolve a balance this does not have much impact but is it worth the shot?--and also in the case I would have to revolve a balance...which probably would not be much of a difference in finance charges.) Just thought I would share some goodwill from here and having a good day and also let those who apply to get the message their response to me was send in a paper application-or go to the store--the results arrived today.

    Again appreciate this wonderful site,
    Rambling Jeremy
