My brother now has a 707 EQ score, no negatives, all positive accounts with 6-12 months.

He applied for a Target Visa and did not get an instant reply.

What does this mean? His balances are:

    $125/$600 Best Buy
    $42/$1000 Discover
    $80/$9000 Citibank
    $10/$200 BP
    $0/$200 Citgo

Only two inquiries on EQ, which I'm pretty sure they pulled, and none on EX and TU.

If I remember correctly, his file is pretty new, right? Maybe that is why....

Yeah it's only 2 years old with a student loan. But I told him to go for them and not Chase because I thought it would be easier.

I guess the next step is to go back to applying for student cards, like MBNA.

OR....keep building positive history with the cards he has, and apply later.....

The reason he needs a new card is because we are going to Europe next year and pretty much only Visas and sometimes AMEX and Diners is accepted.

AMEX and Diners might be too hard and are less accepted, so he wants 1-2 Visa cards.

He might go for CrapOne or Associates just to get a Visa but would rather not go that route. If MBNA and Target deny him, I guess he'll have no choice.

    or....

Target Visa system is bogged down with all the new account applications. Jeeze, going into a Target store during X-Mas was mugging in progress with all this big push for people to apply.

My brother was given an"pre-approval" status for a BoA Gold. He applied on line, last he heard his status is still pending.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Why don't you want him to apply for Chase? I thought it was harder to get the new Target rather than regular Chase card.

    I'm just wondering...

Several on this board have said Chase wants at least 1-2 years of history on revolving cards.

He still might go for it. He's willing to spend 2-3 inquiries per bureau. We've got one EQ and one EX right now.

    author_22,

My brother applied Target Visa this morning and he got instant approval. He needed not to wait for further processing. About two weeks to three weeks ago, I applied for Target Visa and the system told me I have to check back. After 30 mins, I checked the status of the application on the websites. I found out that I got approved. I think the instant approval is depends on the individual credit history. They pulled only one inquiry on my Equifax.

    Ron.
