Has anyone been approved for the Target Visa with a prior Bk, and if so, how old is your BK, and what is your score? I really want one, but I am going to wait a few more months before applying...

I applied for Target Visa in May of 2002 when my Equifax score was a 677.

    I have a prior Chapter13BK, filed June '96, discharged December 2000.

I was approved online for $700 LOC. Chose the pretty silver card over the red one...I like to pretend it is platinum LOL :)

I bk-13 in 1996. Applied for a Target Visa in 11/2001. Was approved for a 6k limit 18.99 APR. Just received a $900 cl increase.

If memory serves me right my scores were in the 650 range.

    Best regards,

OK for the skittish previous BK'ers, I had Ch7 1993, Ch13 1998/disc 2000. I have cleaned up much of my report. EQ = 690. I just applied online to see what would happen. Approved! $700 limit with 18.99%, but that is a nice start and it is unsecured. :) Oh Happy Day!!

From what I am noticing on previous threads and maybe Im wrong, but it looks like they will approve you no matter what your previous credit history is, as long as your score is above 650. I am hearing people say they were declined with a 640 score, and hearing people with a prior BK approved with a 655 score. Interesting.

Thats just an observation, but it seems to be making sense.

My score is around 620, so I will wait a bit.

    Interesting.

I was denied, reason given was due to a b/k (5 years ago) long & excellent history with both their Target Guest Cards & Mervyns Card. My score was about 630 at the time.

    New approvals: GET BETTER TERMS

For those "new approvals but not yet received" the Target visa cards. Do this:

    1. When you get the new visa and call to activate, call customer service (number on the back of the card) to activate but first say you're thinking of not activating because of the 18.99 interest rate. Persistence pays here.

As they activate you they can drop you 1 tier of the interest rate. That will take you down to 15.9. They will tell you they can do this only once. Be gracious and say thank you ;)

A month or so later, call back and discuss how high your interest rate is on this card and how low your line of credit is right now. Again, I'd always be nice but persistent. Talk of a friend of yours who has 12.9 and your credit is very similar. They'll tell you they can't do the line of credit increase just yet (likely give you the 4 month usage speech) but they should be able to drop your interest rate 1 tier... to 12.9%

THE KEY: DO NOT MENTION IN ANY WAY THAT YOU'VE ALREADY GOTTEN A 1 TIER DROP AT ACTIVATION!!!

I think what's happening is that an interest rate reduction done AT activation doesn't really show up as an interest rate reduction: meaning: it looks like you started at 15.9 not 18.9 and so you can quickly get to 12.9.

The key is calling and having a person drop it at activation. If you do it the next day, I think they system will see that drop and then you're stuck for a while. Have fun! and post your results ;)

Re: New approvals: GET BETTER TERMS

I included a Target Guest Card in my Chap 13 from 1996...do you think they would approve ME for the VISA? (scores are all 700+ now, but BK 13 still on for one more year)...
