Did anyone get the New Target Visa yet?

I haven't heard anything else about it.

I know that they haven't been rolled out yet. As a Target Employee, I do have access to the dates that they are going to be converted from store charge to Target Visa. Unfortunately, I haven't been to work since Saturday and won't go in until tomorrow. When I find out information, I will fill you all in!

Why is Target going to convert to a visa? Will it be considered a retail card now or not? About how long until I get mine, and when was the announcement made that they would be converting? I think it would be cool if it was a "smart" visa card.

    Erica,

Do you know if this will affect current retail card holders?

Is CapOne getting involved like they did with KMart.

I ASSUMED THEY WOULD DENY ME...MEMBER OF MANAGEMENT OF A COMPETITOR...

BUT...I assume it would no longer be a "RETAIL" card it would be a "BANK CARD"...

My parents have a Sears Gold Mastercard. Is that a retail card or a "bank" card.

I think it is a "BANK" card.

The only thing I know is that all Target Guest Card holders will be converted to a Target Visa soon. That is all. When I get more info, I will let you know.

Matty,I believe your parents Sears card would be considered both? Same as the K-Mart Mastercard, and the Target Visa?

Even if they did give me a card...I SPEND AN AVERAGE OF $137.00/WEEK...SO A $200.00 LIMIT VISA CARD WOULD BE TOTALLY USELESS!!!!

    EVEN IF I "PRE-PAID" $5,000.00 I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BUY OVER $200.00/DAY!!!

Erica - I have $1000 w. Target credit limit now.
Will they repull credit when they roll out the Visas?
I WOULD LIKE to be converted for at least the same line.

    Any updates?

Dogman, maybe a soft inquiry, but most likely they will look at your performance on the card.

Ok, putting on my detective hat, I've come across a few bits and pieces: First, it will definitely be a smart card; the cards will have 64k of memory; and Target will GIVE customers a smart card reader which will hook up to home PCs. Second, "the company plans to upgrade its Target cardholders to the new Visa at about the same time it begins offering the smart cards to new accountholders in its stores nationwide." Third, this will be the first major retail store to offer a smart card. Fourth, the affiliate bank will not be Capital One -- it will be Retailers National Bank, the organization that currently services existing Target Guest Card holders. Fifth, some people in Denver, Atlanta, and Phoenix who were part of a pilot program already have the Target VISA Smart Card; the rest of us will have to wait until November, December, or January. Sixth, Target VISA holders will be able to participate in the existing Target Guest Card School Fundraising Program (also called "Take Charge of Education"), where 1% of all purchases is donated to the school of the consumer's choice. Seventh, the company that is providing the technology for the Target VISA Smart Card is named Catuity (NYSE ticker: CAT); when Target announced its decision to use them nationwide a few weeks ago, their stock jumped 20% immediately -- Catuity is a company which is definitely worth keeping on the "watch closely" list! Last but not least, "Target Visa smart cards also will have a traditional magnetic strip so they can be used at other merchants but will build loyalty points with Target."

I double-dare a Target employee to top this info motherlode. (LOL, Erica, you know I'm teasing!) On a happy note, I finally took the plunge and got approved for my new Target Guest Card just minutes ago -- a paltry $500 limit, but what the heck. Here's the link to the instant approval page for those who may need that:

Hope this info is helpful! I can't wait to get my Target VISA Smart Card toy later this year (even with the small line of credit -- if I spend more than $500 at Target in a month, I'm in trouble anyway). :)

Argh, one correction. The ticker for Catuity, Inc. is "CTTY" and it trades on the NASDAQ rather than the NYSE. Sorry -- I'll have someone buying stock in Caterpillar (tractors) if I'm not careful. :)
