There has been some discussion regarding how to go about disputing tax liens. General concensus seems to be that "Not Mine" isn't effective and that "no tax lien was filed on XX date" would work better. QUESTION: Wouldn't challenging the accuracy of the date, amount, etc be a tacit agreement that the lien is, in fact. yours?
Great question! I think challenging the date/amount falls in line with the idea that all info on your CR is to be accurate. You may in fact have a lien(or other derog), but all info needs to be accurately reported. ie: if the lien amount was $5, but the CRA reported it as $50 then the information must be deleted. This does not mean that the correct info cannot be now reported(in my example $5). But the chances of it being re-reported accurately is a long shot(knock on wood!). But I think what you are getting at may be true - its just a "crap-shoot".
