    Hello Everyone:

7 years from the date of last activity. If you pay it this year, it will be around until 2011 :(

Some people have suggested that if it happened while you were living at a different address, to remove the old address, and dispute as not mine.

Thanks for the info slugger, I reread my message I must have worked to long today...What I meant to say is that I paid the tax, and I was wondering how long before they take the lien off me. I know its going to be tough to get it off of my reports, I am going to try what you said as for as the address.. Thanks again slugger

They should release it immediately upon payment.

Slugger you're a bit off on this.
Date of last active has nothing to do with how long a tax lien reports.

TAX Liens report 7 years from the date the lien was paid in full; however it is possible for them to be reported many more than 7 years after they have been paid.

    llbown,

Is this because for each state it is different? How do you determine how long the tax lein stays after it is paid?

Is this a Federal or State tax lien? Overall, it doesn't matter except for a few states.

A tax lien stays reported on your CR for 7 years from date "Paid" (in full).

As for a "release", the agency should have issued you a release upon payment; that means when they have recieved "good funds (i.e. check cleared, or paid with cashier's or certified check).

If you paid it in full six weeks ago, I would follow up with the agency in question. You should have a release by now.

As for CR removal, these are the toughest to remove. You can try disputing, with the standard methods, but do not expect any success. Depending upon whether it os state or federal, there are "requests for removal" you can submit.

Thanks bizwiz41 for the response. It was a federal tax from 96 that I did not agree with. But after dealing with them for so long and not getting anywhere I set up a payment schedule with them that I just recently paid off. I wish I would have known of this site a year ago I think I would have handled this situation differently...Again thanks

    What's the SECRET?

    Larry,
they did pay it. One illinois guy had to fly to Springfield to get it paid, otherwise he couldn't get the house on time. It was in January and it the state database was about to be archived temporarily to be ready for April tax season. The bottom line is, after they paid, it was gone from their reports. Became nice and clean and sanitized. May be someone did it for them. Usually it stays under Public Records as "PAID" but in these cases, boom, gone

    Re: Re: Tax Lien

Unfortunately, now that it is paid, there is LESS you can do to have it removed. The IRS system does allow negotiation BEFORE you pay, to not have it reported. But, that must be part of the "settlement agreement". I just went through this learning curve last year.

However, you can make a "Request For Withdrawal of Federal Tax Lien Notice". It is a long process, and you have to have solid documentation. The odds of success are low. But, here is a starting point for you if you want to invstigate it:

    Good Luck!!

    >Tax liens report like so:
The reporting period is 7 Years from date paid, but here is the catch The CRAs don't know when the lien was paid until the release has been filed with the court.
Oft times the lien is paid but the release is never filed or it's filed much later.
Say a lien was filed in 1985 but not paid till 1993 but no release was filed with the court. At this point it has been on your reports for 8 years. Finally in 2001 the release gets filed with the court. The Lien has now been on your reports for 16 years. At long last in 2008 the lien falls off your reports after being reported for 23 long years.

    Re: Re: Tax Lien

lbrown: Thanks for the response. When I first started discussing my account with the IRS several years ago, they said as long as I stayed up to date with my payment schedule to them, there would be no lien. Of course the following month the lien was issued. Now I have paid the total amount due, and they are being slow on removing the lien. The problem that Ive had over the last few years is you never can get the same person to discuss your account. Anyway thanks all for your input..

Unpaid home sale lien? Is this a federal income tax lien?

We can't compare apples and oranges.
