Re: Re: Tax Lien I hope you donâ??t mind if I jump in here with a question about tax liens. This is really confusing me. Iâ??ve read where it will say that unpaid tax lens can be listed on credit reports indefinitely, depending on your state of residence. How would you go about finding out what your state says (and if your state doesnâ??t address it, does that mean itâ??s indefinitely?). I see several sites that list the SOL for debts and judgments by state, but that is the time frame they are allowed to legally collect the debt and seemingly nothing to do with how long an unpaid tax lien would remain on your credit report based on your sate, correct? So again how/where would I go to find this info (has anyone pulled this together like the SOL lists? Thanks
Re: Re: Re: Tax Lien There are two kinds of tax liens, federal and state. Federal liens remain on your CRs for 7 years from the date paid. Note this means if not paid they will stay on your reports. All state tax liens are different depending on the stae. The state's civil procedure law or tax law would define how they view tax liens. In NY State a tax lien is considered the same as a CIVIL JUDGMENT, and the rules for judgments apply to the lien. It can only remain on a CR for 7 years if not paid, or 5 years if paid. REMEMBER this is only for NY State, other states are different
