Does anyone know how CRA's do this? I find it hard to believe they call the recorder's office in every county whenever they receive a dispute on public record information. To even speak with someone at our recorder's office takes an act of God. And even then, they won't tell you anything over the phone. I know bk's are listed on the various bankruptcy court websites, as well as on PACER, so that's an easy computer check. But I've found no similar site for tax liens or judgments. So how do they do it? Also, is there truth to the belief that 2 of 3 items have to match? Name, address, ss#. And if 2 of the 3 don't match, does the item get deleted from credit report?
In Calif. there are sites where some counties have recorder office info. on line. What I've read is they have to be able to match two of the three items on the lein, ex. name and SS#, name and address. That's why it is important to get old addresses off your CR. If I am wrong, someone will correct me.
Dare I ask how long these things hang around for? I was just told by the nice lady at IRS that they put out national liens for anything over $5,000. So does that mean any property you own will show this lien and it will eventually show up on the CRAs?
The link to check out leins/judgements in California. http://co.el-dorado.ca.us/countyclerk/other_rec.html It has most county links. In California, unpaid tax leins are to be removed from you CR after 10 years.
Thanks mtnair. I checked my county on the list, and they don't have an option for checking on-line for liens. There must be another way the CRA's are checking, or else they are just saying they verified and really didn't?
