Tax Mail Question

    I send STATE and FEDERAL CERTIFIED R/R

    The www.usps.com tracking # shows the "PICK UP" location and time (04/15/2003) but NOTHING ELSE.

    Is it going to take a week or two to get to their destinations???

    It's gonna take quite a while since you sent it certified and someone has to sign for it. With a few million returned mailed on the 15th I'm sure they're not going to get to yours for a while.

    I read somewhere once, that the IRS does not have to sign for certified mail.

    THEY MUST "STAMP" IT THAT THEY GOT IT...nobody has to sign JOHN DOE with their pen...

    RECEIPT MUST BE VERIFIED...

    It doesn't matter. You are required to FILE by April 15th. If you mailed or properly shipped UPS by midnight 4/15, you don't have to care about when it gets there. All you need is a copy of your mailing/shipping receipt and a copy of the return if it becomes an issue.
