This is part of the email I received when my return was accepted by the IRS:

...the Federal electronic return for (me) was accepted by the Internal Revenue Service on 01/31/02.

...Based upon the acceptance date of this Federal electronic return, the Federal refund should be transferred to the appropriate bank (allow
48-72 additional hours for transfer to the appropriate account) on 02/15/02. Please keep in mind, however, that the IRS does not guarantee a
specific date that a refund will be deposited into a taxpayer's financial institution account or mailed.

This matched up with the schedule I posted earlier today. But I just checked my credit union account, and it posted tonight!

I e-filed on 2/1/02, and selected direct deposit, IRS said it takes between 10 and 16 days. Maybe I'll get lucky and wake up tomorrow and see it in my bank account.

Can anyone e-file or do you need a tax person to do this?

Anyone can e-file to my knowledge. I personally like www.turbotax.com. It cost me $19.95 and I paid with my debit card and my refund "should" hit my bank at midnight tonight. It is very easy to use and will do an error check for you. If you have last years return and can give certain information from it, you don't even have to mail anything in. You simply sign electronically and it's a done deal :)

I e-filed on the 30th and got my refund posted to my account today (2-7).

    Jacqui and Dave,

Thanks for sharing this info, we filed on the 2nd! We did this last year also and I could not remember whether it took 8 days or 5!

This is definitely the way to do it!

OK, what went wrong? I filed on the 26th, it was accepted on the 27th...according to the link it should be deposited today 2-8-02 and it's not there. My bank updates at midnight, and I was thinking it would be last night 7th at midnight. Would it be tonight instead or did something go haywire??? Glad I haven't mailed any checks out yet!!

If it states the 8th and your bank updates @ midnight it should be there in the morning.

Sometimes you can call the bank and they can see if there is an incoming deposit.

Ok I just called the bank and they said income tax refunds only come on Mondays, no matter what it tells you. hmmmmmmmm Ok well that's fine I assume it will be there Monday instead of today :)

Well, apparently that's not true - maybe it's just how it works at your bank? Anyway, I have my fingers crossed for you!

I just talked to someone else at the bank and that lady had NO clue what she was talking about. When I called the teletax number it gave me another number and extension to call...so I'm on hold now. The recording says someone will be with me within 20 minutes. :(

Tax refunds don't only come on Mondays. I received mine on January 25th. (I actually think they are only sent on Fridays, but am not totally sure.) The day the IRS gives you is only the day that they sent it. It can take up to 72 hours for your bank to process that transfer and the funds be made available to you. Perhaps that is what the woman at your bank was taking about-as the IRS only sends on Fridays, the bank doesn't receive it until Monday.

I waited on hold for almost 30 minutes (on my cell phone) and they told me it has been accepted but is still being processed and to call back on Wednesday. So I'm assuming I won't get it until next Friday :(

Did you go for the e-loan feature on turbo-tax?
2-3 days but they want a fee and they pull a hard inquiry.
