Hey gang! Got a question: A friend of mine is engaged to an illegal alien from Hondouras. He has a taxpayer ID # (TIN) so she paid and got reports for him. His credit is not that messed up. He had no positive credit and 2-3 collection accounts. What I want to know is....he really can't establish credit using that TIN anyway, right? Isn't that illegal? What are the rules regarding establishing credit for non citizens using a TIN???? Don't creditors reject applications for people that list a TIN as a SSN??? One of the collections he has on there is from Verizon for $500. I told her not to pay it because what's the point if he can't establish credit under that number?? Any comments???? Thanks!
ok, the TAX ID is usually for non -citizen , for my inlaws, during the process of filing an immigration petition, B4 you get the approval, you can request a tax id for TAX PURPOSE, is NOT for work, not for social security nor any state benefits. NORMALLY, after your petition gets approvel , you will be give a diffrent number in which will be SS#. Although the creditor is NOT suppose to give credit on TAX ID#...but they DO & they DID for my in law.
