This is a new one. I want to but my leased car in a week when my lease runs out. A local credit union has better rates than I can get elsewhere. But I have to open a $5 account with the credt union in order to get the loan. The rep tried to open an account for me today but it was rejected by Telecheck. I called TeleCheck and their rep said I have a negative item for a Chase Bank checking account from September 2005 suggesting that I tried to open an account with a fraudulent check. I called Chase. After 90 minutes of calls, here is what I learned: 1. Someone no longer with the bank tagged my file with a negative report suggesting fraud. 2. They asked me if I had a Chase checking account in the past. I did. I closed it in 2005 and moved my business to Fifth Third. She asked whether there were any problems when I closed the account. I said not that I remember. My employer moved its accounts to Fifth Third and I was tired of waiting 3 or 4 days for my expense checks to clear. 3. She said that the flag on my account suggested possible fraud, but that the documents had been purged. 4. I told her that Chase better not screw up my auto loan based on an item placed by someone who is no longer there regarding purged records. She is going to have a supervisor call me tomorrow with authority to remove the item. I went home and looked at my 2005 bank records. I was moving my biz over to Fifth Third. By August 2005, I had moved my direct deposit of my pay to Fifth Third and was leaving enough money in the Chase account to cover outstanding checks. In August, Chase created a $160 overdraft by charging my $175 for something I didn't authorize. Chase reversed that charge two days later. In September, I had one final $360 insurance ACH coming through before that moved to Fifth Third. I put $600 in the Chase account to cover that, and planned to empty the account when that item went through. The same day, without calling me, Chase took $610 from my account for a credit line payment rather than allowing me to pay it through Fifth Third. That created a new overdraft, of $350.00, and resulted in $175 in overdraft charges, which Chase refused to reverse. I went in and grudgingly paid the overdraft (over $500) and closed the account, and haven't heard a peep from Chase since. I wasn't happy with Chase, and they probably weren't happy with me. But they tagged my account with possible fraud, which has screwed me with Telecheck. Any suggestions?
Resolution Two more hours today, but finally got the item removed. This type of CR is different -- no credit report. No formal procedure. Much more "star chamber" than I would have liked. Local Chase bank manager was very helpful, plus I had my 2005 statement showing a $0 balance, with no problems.
