well, getting a credit card is conditional on your report... getting insurance is conditional on your report... financing a car is conditional on your report... that's exactly my point... how can they make credit an issue in a hospital??? They're not a credit provider and they're not collecting on a bad debt... so what's the business purpose of pulling a report after rendering service??? I just am not seeing the business purpose... not in this case... but you guys keep hammering on it. you'll keep coming up with what they'll say to me and it'll make me better prepared you all are great
Doc, this is not a "license" per se, but a government security clearance is the first thing that comes to mind. People who are being vetted for access to classified information or are having their 5-year background investigation update would fall in this category. There are two schools of thought here similar to the so-called driving-credit connection: (a) some feel that good credit is a determing factor for responsibility: the assertion is that one who has good credit is more responsible and therefore a better driver <more stable citizen> and thus a lower insurance risk <lower security risk>. (b) concerns financial reasons: a person who doesn't have massive debt problems is less likely to commit insurance fraud <less likely to initiate/be recruited for spying> in order to pay for his or her mounting bills. So when Sally drives to the Pentagon in her new Lexus 2 weeks after her Hyundai is repoed, well *somebody* is going to question that!!! back to the topic at hand I have a friend who used to work for a Tenet hospital in Dallas, I'll ask her if she knows anything about the credit report situation.
Check your state law!!! Virginia has the Information Privacy Act, and Information Practices Disclosure. I bet your state does too!! If state law has requirements and federal law doesn't, state law would prevail, wouldn't it? In VA anyone pulling credit has to ask you first, and you can refuse whatever business transaction you have initiated at that point by saying no.
Even If getting Med.service was conditional on a report what is the purpose in pulling your report after services have been provided? What're they gonna do if they don't like what's in your report= REPOSSESS THE TREATMENT?
I also had this problem with University of Chicago Hospital. My daughter came in the emergency room and we didn't get a chance to give them our insurance information. She was admitted to the hospital, within a day or two when things settled down I remembered to give them my insurance information. Well when we got home and I was reviewing my Transunion Credit Report, I saw that they had pulled an hard inquiry on my report within a day of them admitting her. WTF!! I called and raised hell, with the hospital but they said it was nothing they could do. That as a matter of policy they pull credit reports on all patients that do not have insurance. So what are they saying, if you don't have a good credit score, they will kick you out of the hospital. It is a shame that our society has come to this, that they pull a credit report to treat you in a hospital.
WHEN MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE IN THE HOSPITAL...UNDER INSURANCE..I PUT VISA/MC/AMEX/DISCOVERCARD!!! I DEMANDED A BILL FOR PAYMENT UPON LEAVING...THEY SAID THEY DON'T DO THAT...I WOULD GET THE BILL IN THE MAIL!!!
I think its alright. Look at this way, you can give a fake name and SSN and get free service. Who pays for that? US. Does it happen everyday still? Yes.. Those people are committing fraud and causing our insane prices to go up. It's no different than applying for credit card with a fake SSN # and then defaulting. You are required by law in georgia to carry a picture ID if you are of legal age (cop told me this a year ago when i left my license at home, was pulled over walking down the street (!!) at night). All things fair they should pull a SOFT inquiry (ID-VERIFICATION) at most though, i'll give you that much.
I would totally agree with you on 2 conditions: 1. they did it when I checked into the emergency room (that WOULD prevent fraud) 2. They put it on the form that they were doing it they gave me no notice, and they did it 10 days after service. Had I given fraudulent information it would have been to late to catch me... again, so what's their purpose really...
IF THE HOSPITAL IS PROVIDING YOU A LOAN...FINE RUN A CREDIT REPORT...IF NOT IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!!! It's your bill...if the insurance pays fine...if NOT YOU PAY...
IF THE HOSPITAL IS PROVIDING YOU A LOAN...FINE RUN A CREDIT REPORT...IF NOT IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!!! I agree!!!! If I have a valid insurance card leave my report alone. Same for Insurance Companies If I give you a valid check for homerowners or driving leave my report alone. They want a way to track us. I was told there are agencies for medical reports and insurance reports just like the CRA You can be denied medical coverage because of a pre-existing condition. If you do not report it on the form how do they know? The medical file on your report. The SS # is the key.
I talked to my friend who is a former Tenet employee. She doesn't know of any reason why they would pull a report "unless they're just being nosy" which may be the case. She said to be sure to read all your paperwork. When she used to do admissions, they would ask people to provide their place of birth. She said after a few patients raised hell about it, she had to go find out--they were trying to do some kind of demographic study on mobility and healthcare. It was a weak explination.
thanks for checking. Of course, as retentive as I am, I looked over my admissions stuff again. Nope, nothing. The form is rather short and weak. I am sending a demand letter... I think it's b.s. they had no right in my report at all.
That's funny. My friend couldn't even obtain an *ID* here because her FL license had been suspended for an unpaid ticket. She had to take care of the FL ticket and get documentation before GA would issue her a state *ID*. I think the cop was full of --it. -ingenue
Carring a PICTURE ID is REQUIRED BY LAW...if you don't or can't drive, you have to get a STATE ISSUED PICTURE ID CARD...(CA & CO)...other states don't know...
