[Another virus hoax. Please do not distribute. Thanks. -PBM] This just out. Subject: Warning - Worst Virus Error (CNN announced) A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored. This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You." As soon as you get the mail, delete it. Please pass this mail to all of your friends. Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. Also: Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was discovered recently. If you receive an email called "An Internet Flower For You," do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer. Your computer will not be able to boot up!! -- ********************* No trees were destroyed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were significantly inconvenienced. *********************
All I know about it is that an attorney friend of mine by the name of Larry Becraft over in Alabama sent me the email and I posted it here. Larry isn't kown for falling for hoaxes, but there is a first time for everything. It would not be the first time such hoaxes have been passed all over the internet. Even if it is a hoax, it serves more notice not to open any attachments unless you know exactly where they come from and what is in them before one opens them. Even so, it's a good idea to have your virus software up to date and functioning at all times. Then not to worry if it's a hoax or not. Since it's supposed to have been originally put out by CNN, one might take a little trip over to the CNN.com website and see if any references to the virus might be found. If not, then it's probably a hoax. CNN.Com is easy to check out.
Well then, I guess I got the virus. My Norton has not complained about anything yet. Just have to see what happens, I guess. I think I will see if any updates are available. Do you happen to know the name of the virus?
Sorry Bill, don't mean to yell here, and with all respect to George: THERE IS NO VIRUS!!! IT IS A HOAX!! When the poster said "the email IS the virus" that is just because the definition of a virus is something that replicates and propagates itself...you forwarding the message to your friends and saying "PASS THIS ON" is more correctly the virus. Don't forward that email to anyone and drop the whole Norton/Antivirus issue. -Peace, Dave
DUHHHHHHHHH You e-mail 20...they e-mail 20...they e-mail 20... BEFORE YOU KNOW IT...IT HAS GONE AROUND THE WORLD, AND 500,000,000 PEOPLE HAVE SEEN IT...
Dave, I have not sent it to anyone else and I never do for fear that I just might be helping to spread it. Also, now that I have thought about it a bit, I don't think I do have the virus because I reread the letter from my friend and it says something about a postcard type of thing, virtual card or something like that and I have not seen or opened anything like that. These viruses have become such a problem that it is worth considering even if it is a hoax. One gets gunshy after a while with no problem at all. I assume that when you say to drop the Nortion anti-virus issue, that you feel we should not be discussing such things. Is that correct? I don't know anything about these viruses except that I have had a couple of them and they are not funny in the least. And I don't mean to be spookin folks either.
Here ya go McFly, some fun reading: http://www.freewarehof.org/email.html Don't be a Charlie Brown Pay attention to #6 -Peace, Dave PS, I know you are not forwarding the email Bill, however it is a virus in propagating THIS THREAD AS WELL, as such I am done posting about this...buh bye now.

Re: terrible new virus alert(CNN al OK! Thanks for the info. All I know about these stupid viruses is that I'm scared to death of them.
Hey! I don't think it's so funny. I'm so scared of those thinks that every time I hear of another one the wifey has to wash all my underwear. LOL
George, You may be an exception, but I don't know of any man who washes his own underwear. I bet half of them don't eventhough they know where the washer and dryer are located. Dani
