I received a "preapproval" in the mail from Texaco a couple of weeks ago.
I accepted the card via the automated system. I found out that TEXACO did a hard inquiry for the "preapproval". I would never have accepted it if I knew a hard inquiry would be placed. I do not NEED anymore inquiries!

The only reason I did is because in 5/01 of this year I received a "preapproval" from SHELL(owned by the same bank as TEXACO). I accepted SHELL via the automated system and was approved with no hard inquiry. I confirmed that SHELL did not do a hard inquiry as I saw a "soft" inquiry dated 3/01 on my report.

I guess ANB is changing their policy. Don't know if this was because of my credit profile or not, but I do have an Associates Visa AND a SHELL card. I just wanted everyone to know what to expect if they receive the same offer

I didn't know that ANB would solicit you for a Texaco card if you already had the Shell since you can use either card at either station anyway. If you don't mind me asking, why would you want both cards? I can understand if you are just trying to get more accounts with Associates.

I accepted the Shell card earlier in the year thinking it might help me with Citibank. I was approved last month for two Citibank cards, so it may have worked.

I have both Chevron & Texaco(it will be intersting to see when they combine accounts what will be the end result).

Once I had a Texaco card, I received preapproved offers for a Shell card and another Texaco card. A total of 3 preapproved offers.
