The Basics

I have read through the FAQ, the litigous mindset, etc., but have not found a birds eye view of how to go about everything. It doesn't have to cover the nitty gritty details, just the basic game plan. For example, the first thing to do is to ... contest all previous addresses on your CR because .... they don't do you any good now anyway, and it may thwart creditors from validating accounts as you proceed with items 2-12 on the game plan. The second thing to do is ..... Perhaps this is impossible since people are using this for different reasons: repair their credit from invalid items on their CR, to avoid valid debts, to try to gain credit and recover from BK, ... Have I missed a page/thread/something that addresses this type of issue? Or maybe I'm just having trouble seeing the "big picture", or can't see the forest for all the trees.

    For my own questions:
    1) I have accounts on my CR that correctly are listed as IIB, but have a reported date (02/03, 12/03, 02/04) more recent than the BK (04/01). Which date is used in the FICO scores? I assume the "date reported", not the "date opened". Or is there another date that I'm not seeing on my CR? Is it possible to get these dates pushed back to the BK date, or is it best to just let them sleeping dogs lie?

    2) I have a couple of other accts that have a status of charge off when they should be IIB. The status dates of these accts are 05/03 and 08/03, again with the BK of 04/01. Should I fight the good fight to get it correct, or am I better off the way they are? Is it better to have them listed as IIB or charge off? Will getting them changed to IIB change the status date to now? Again, with the sleeping dogs lie thing?

    3) A similar situation to #2, but this one lists a balance of $750 with Shell and status date of 08/03.

    4) There is a CA listed for an OC that was included in my BK. The CA lists the acct has a charge off w/ a balance of $1700, and status date of 10/03.

    5) My ex-troll somehow got a hold of my HH cc # and made unauthorized charges on it. I have gotten my money back from HH, and they closed the acct and opened a new one. This was my oldest CC since the BK, is there a way to have them put the date opened for the original acct onto the new one? BTW, the new HH acct isn't on the CR yet (2 mo?). Suggestion?

    6) I still have my (ex)step-son on my insurance. The ex-troll didn't pay dr bills, since he's on my insurance, they reported the debt to a CA, who dinged my CR. The bill is valid, and I paid it through the CA (probably not bright, but I didn't know at the time). Any suggestions on what to do to say "these people never even tried to contact me to collect the money...." or anything else to get this removed?

Thanks in advance. Sorry if I didn't post this in the right spot. Still a relative newbie to the site.

There really isn't a bird's eye view, as everyone's credit report is unique, and thus unique problems.
    For my own questions:
The DOLA should be the date used for FICO scores. I'm seeing a trend of the CRAs not making it easy for us to see this date. In fact, you have to call Experian. Date reported and opened are meaningless.

THis is a matter of personal preference. Most recommend a simple not mine dispute and let the furnishers either update ACCURATELY or delete. Once you admit to that IIB, that baby will be stuck on your credit report as long as legally allowable.

    You don't owe Shell $750. :)

You need to send a validation letter to the CA...it should never have been put on your report.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else have any wisdom they'd like to share. Anyone have any advice on the last two? TIA
