Hi the experts, My sweetheart wants to switch from GM card to any other card which gives free gasoline. The move should be made because, GM has reduced its rewards from 5% to 1% which is really bad. I have Shell MC from Citibank in my mind. I know there are great experts on this board about this, I request you all to suggest me some wonderful options. and also the pros and cons of shell MC from Citibank. Thank you in advance. P.S: My sweetheart has an excellent credit rating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ganesh.
Which is the best: Chase Freedom Card or Shell Mastercard? Thank you... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ganesh.
The Chase Freedom card gives you 6% at ANY Gas station for the first three months and 3% thereafter. All other purchases are 1%. Rebates are credited off of your next month's statement. NO GAS needs to be purchased to earn the 1% rebate. Use the card nine times a year (the first year is free) and the annual fee of $19 is waived. By the way, nine times does NOT have to include gas. Shell gives 5% on Shell gas and 1% on all else. However, you must use the card 9 times a year for Shell gasoline purchases, or there is a 420 annual fee (the first year is free). Shell gas is somewhat expensive where I live (in Illinois near Chicago). Unless you are a die-hard Shell devotee, I would go with the Chase Freedom card. Another possibility is the AAA Mastercard which pays 5% on any gas AT THE GAS PUMP ONLY. However, there is no rebate for non-gasoline purchases, making the advantage of this card somewhat negligible. I say go with Chase!
Re: Re: The best card for free gasoline!!! I suspect that was $20 and the <shift> key was not pressed, turning the '$' into a '4' But you knew that..
Re: Re: The best card for free gasoline!!! Does anyone know what score is required for either of those cards? I'm sitting at 587 EXP, right now. I'd love to have one of the cards, both to help rebuild my credit and also to get the cash back.
Yes, chase would have been better, but the following link shows that chase has changed its freedom card into perfect card and no more 5% rebate but only 3%. http://www.cardweb.com/cardtrak/news/2003/july/21a.html Now, I think the shell MC becomes better. What is your opinion? Ganesh.
The 5% was only for people who had the Shell MC through Chase before Chase lost the Shell MC to Citibank. They (Chase) continued the 5% for those select cardholders so that they would not lose them to Citibank. All others who apply get 3% (6% the first 90 days). If Shell is the cheapest gas (or as cheap as any other gas) in your area, then fine, go with the Shell card. I would rather have 3% on ANY gas than just 5% on Shell gas, but that's me. The key is "whatever works for you." Another option is to get both, Shell for 5% at Shell stations and Chase Freedom for 3% everywhere else ! Good luck.
