KHM, Did they refund your annual fee ($85) ? I was thinking of doing this upgrade so i can get another BDD in, but that annual fee thing is in my way... Great post Marci!
That's because you switched over right away to platinum select. I have had the AA card for over 6 months, so the situation is different.. -Roman
Marie, You are right. HHB (sub-prime division) and Orchard are the same bank, as I remember based on when I closed the HHB account last year . And Dani was kind enough to post this number for Orchard Retention: Orchard Retention: 800 597-1122
My annual fee is only $50 for the citi aa card, and no fee for the platinum. As soon as I get the platinum card I am going to ask them to refund the $50, seeing as I only had that card for 2 months.

Yes, I think so. I called Quantum CS to get the 10.99 fixed apr and they transferred me to the "Rate Adjustment" dept. - this dept. kept profusely stating that they wanted me to keep the account open and that this change would happen immediately, could they send me BT checks, etc.... It sounded a lot like retention, but then again every CS rep I've spoken with at MBNA sounds like retention to me. They have the best customer service hands down!

fyi, i just called citibank retention (800-444-2568) and the woman said I MUST go thru customer service and that she could only help me if i go that route crap i say they wont do anything for me ive got a $9,000 balance at 10.65% rate...
Does anyone have a # for firstusa? My DH has a card with them at 24% and they keep refusing to lower the apr. I don't think he's ever called the retention # - just cs.
I don't know what Citibank did internally, but the CSR's don't have as much power to lower APR's as they used to, so you almost have to go through retention for better rates now "The shadow knows..."
