In another thread an erroneous fax# was posted for faxing your disputes to a CRA. Quite simply, that IS the real problem with faxing your disputes. You NEVER really know who you are faxing your information to. Just think what happens if you send information to the wrong CRA, or maybe even misdial by one digit, happen to get another fax#, and send your personal information (address phone, and SS#) to some random person. Who knows how your personal information will be used. Heck if I were an Identity thief, I might even get a block of numbers surrounding the CRA's fax #'s by one digit on each side...attach a 30 dollar fax machine and voila every XXth person who misdials sends me their personal information ready for instant use. Just look at how many sites use the mis-spellers of microsoft.com....just try it...mis-spell microsift.com...how about micrisoft.com. See what you can get spelling yaho.com...gogle.com...it is amazing. Also you never even know who reads your information while it sits on the fax machine waiting to be delivered to the right department when you DO reach the correct entity through a fax. I feel much more comfortable sending online or CRRR than faxing my personal information. At least you have a signature from the person opening and directing your information to the proper department. Actually, disputing online, you are probably at least risk of thiese problems. Just my thoughts and my own opinions on the whole FAXing situation, not knocking those who have gotten quite successful results using the fax. There are many who get results using the fax, I just thought I would stress that we should be cautious when doing so. -Peace, Dave
My fax confirmation sheet actually comes up with the name of the company that the fax number belongs to. Like I faxed one to 866-233-3777 and it comes back as successfully sent to Equifax. I guess if other fax machines don't do that then that could potentially cause a problem if you accidently send to wrong place.
