MBNA SAYS THEY WILL BT TO ANYBODY WITH AN ACCOUNT NUMBER AND A BILLING ADDRESS...EVEN YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT.

I've only done credit card bts from Cap1... I do know when I give them another credit card number they can confirm : Ok, Nextcard number...

For example, I wonder if you gave them your BofA debit card if they'd send money there...

of course, one issue is that they used to always send checks, but lately I've been seeing ACH balance transfers and an ACH transfer would work... if not, they'd send a check to BofA's credit card payments center looking for your credit card number to post to...

As for the not reporting credit limits, Cap1's official party line is that high limit customers don't want their limits reported.. they like being able to keep part of their credit line hidden. Fine, if you know that's what they're doing. Most people haven't got a clue.

As to the real reason, a former credit analyst confirmed to me that it was to stop customer pilfering by other companies... If you have good credit, a 7k Cap1 limit, it's too easy for Citi to tailor an offer to you... at 8k with better terms than Cap1. It's a very competitive market.

As a side benefit to Cap1, they use their own internal scoring so it affects them less... and what's the harm to them? If your score decreases because your revolving ratios look artificially high, it would only deter Citi from trying to steal you away from Cap1... nice, huh.

It is predatory unless you know about it and choose how to (or not to) counter act the effect. For most people, I think it's more deadly to their score than we imagine (as revolving ratios is a key score driver).

You can fight it all you want, or you can just show your limit by charging it up one month... at least that way you control how much of your limit is seen by the world.

I hated it for the last 2 years, but now that I have several Plat cards with Cap1, I like the policy. I have 5k+ hidden in credit and that hidden credit will only increase with time ;)

That's a GREAT attitude, Marie! I don't have any other gripes with Cap1...they helped me with a card just 3 months post BK in '98. With the help of this board, I've been "pestering" Mr. Cooke...and he's done a lot for me with new cards, CL increases, and APR reductions...not to mention refunding annual fees.

Unfortunately, folks like Christine at BayHouse are on a "war-path" over this CL issue. It's too bad...since I fully understand the logic behind both sides of the story. I'll just take everyone's suggestion and run up my Credit High.

One thing that puzzles me...In the credit ratio formulas for calculating credit scores, do they take into account the Credit High amount? I thought they only look at Balance/Credit Limit...

AS FAR AS I KNOW...it's "BALANCE TO CREDIT LIMIT"...so if you have NO credit limit, but a balance of $5,000 it HURTS your score...

Earlier today, I was "playing" around with some of the airline sites like Delta and British Airways.

Essentially, you would need to buy an UNRESTRICTED ticket. This type of ticket allows refunds...

Price per passenger: $7,937.84 (USD) ONE FLIGHT IS FIRST, OTHER FLIGHT IS BUSINESS (UNRESTRICTED) FLIGHTS...

This topic was brought up before a number of times, and I took someone's suggestion to write myself one of the checks that came with my statement for the credit line, then send them a payment at the next statement. Be sure you know the terms of the checks they send, mine were treated "like purchases" with a grace period like any other purchase, then 9.99% after that. No cash advance rules applied to my checks. So I did it for one of my cards, but not the other yet.

Hey Ted, How does Cap 1 list payments thru C2It?
    Purchases or cash advances?

    Purchases...

If you go the C2it route, you will be limited to their daily transfer limits and then their 4 day limits on all tranfers...a very slow method.

I'm going to do the airline ticketing route....

Another alternative...BT 100% less $50 or $100 of your total limit...

Just wait till the statement posts and pay it off if you need to...
