Actually, Washington Mutual has a really nice product with their Platinum Account. Money Market rates - $1000 minimum to open - and it is open to anyone - but you need a major credit card, ID (drivers license), and pass chexsystems. You need to sign a signature card- so you may as well do this in a branch - but you could do by mail. Here's what you get for benefits: Visa Platinum Check Card Link a total of 10 accounts (both checking and savings) to this one card. Get free Platinum Account checking and checks. Get VISA Platinum Warranty Manager with the Visa Platinum Check Card - you can call one VISA number and register all your purchases - and they will keep tabs on the warranity for you. (Interesting, VISA USA will sell you extra warranty insurance LOL!) Purchase Security - will repair, replace or reimburse you up to a maximum of $500 per claim for eligible items of personal property purchased entirely with your Visa Platinum check card for the first 90 days of purchase in the event of theft, or damage due to fire, vandalism, or weather. (GREAT for a check card!) Wahington Mutual HIGHER DAILY LIMITS: ATM Withdrawals $500* *However, if you request a higher daily withdrawal limit, and we, in our own discretion agree, the amount from ATMs is limited to the agreed amount not to exceed $1000 per day for Visa Cards. POS Transactions/Retail Purchases/VISA Cash ADV* $5000 *Visa cash advances- up to $5000 daily - subject to amount available in accounts, and any overdraft links available. (This type of advance you could do in a casino for example - they process $$$ like a charge and give you a cash advance - for a fee of course!) SO - I think for overall FLEXIBLE and PRESTIGIOUS cash management, with a savings deposit of $1000 minimum - $100,000 maximum, WM has a dynamite product. I am very pleased with the service, speed of issuing the card, and appreciate the tiered interest rate scales. I really appreciate the fact you can hook different accounts and use the card very easily without worry. Plus, this is a card you are pleased to show off. Carrying my DL, this Visa Platinum Check Card, and my AMEX Green can take care of anything - anywhere. That is true flexibility. later - Dogman
Set up my Platinum Account earlier today by converting an existing checking acct. over the phone with WAMU CS. They are really great to deal with. As I did this all over the phone I had no printed info. Appreciate you taking the time to post all of this. An online brochure for my new acct. LOL This acct. will serve me very well. Great product!! They are definitely a class bank.
Thanks Jeff - I always appreciate your comments and perspectives. FYI - I had NOT been using the WAMU website - until today when I tried the GREAT new format. The PLATINUM account sure showed up there quickly! I think - aside from looking really sharp - with the purchase security on the platinum version check card - why would anyone EVER write a check for a retail item? A regular check does pay the bill, but this Visa Platinum Check Card does cover you for theft, loss, etc - and this is the first checking / interest account I have had that ever allowed that. I do not want any more frequent flyer accounts! c ya dogman
Website for accounts..... Very sophisticated how they give you an option to download to either Microsoft Money and/or Quicken. As we all know, I am in Internet, and they have a website that is extremely well executed! The outside www.wamu.com is OK - but the internal account sections offer mucho flexibility. later - dogman
Re: Website for accounts..... I do like the account section of their website also. I download my acct. info. into Quicken and it works well.
Re: Website for accounts..... Could you provide a link to the Platinum Visa Checkcard. I see Gold, but no platinum information. Mike G.
Re: Website for accounts..... Hi MIKE! Washington Mutual has not put it on their website yet. I believe they rolled the account as a new high end product about two weeks ago. They advertised in the SF Chronicle last Sunday - first time I had seen it. Here is the link to find out more about the Visa Platinum Check Card: http://www.visa.com/pd/enhancements/card06.jsp You can also call 18007887000 to find out more. As you can tell - I am highly pleased! Apparently, you can upgrade other checking accounts into PLATINUM also - check out Jeff's posts above! I kept my current checking (free) w overdraft, savings, and opened PLATINUM. But I have already linked one checking to the PLAT ACCT. c ya - dogman
