Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? Check out this link. I think a lot of employees of Visa and Mastercard probably don't even know the rules http://www.in.gov/dfi/consumer/pdfs/id.pdf Kim
Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? "NO SIGNATURE~~I NEED A LICENSE PLEASE" "IT SAYS "CID" or "SEE ID"!!!!!!! WITH ATTITUDE!!!!!!!! In my head I say...AND YOUR POINT IS???????????????????
Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? Personally I don't see the problem with looking at ID if the card says "see ID." I think it should be the same as an unsigned card which Visa says to check ID if one is presented. Kim
Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? I never ever sign my credit cards and always present my I.D with the credit card. I win and they win and no one is in a situation to feel uncomfortable. The credit card would probably be worthless to someone if stolen. I just leave it blank. I have only ran across this once where they would not accept it at all with the I.D. THE POST OFFICE. Why? or has this happened to anyone else.
Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? The back of the card says that it is not valid unless signed. That's probably why the Post Office didn't take it. Basically anyone who stole your card could sign your name and use it since the signatures would match. They wouldn't even have to try to copy your signature. Kim
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? "VOID IF NOT SIGNED" "NOT VALID UNLESS SIGNED" THAT IS WHY THE POST OFFICE REFUSED IT!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? In my opinion that makes no sense at all. I have a better chance of walking in with a stolen credit card signed or not and if it was not signed I could just sign it. What risk would it be to anyone if I walk in and the credit card and I.D match and the signature on the credit card receipt matches my drivers license. That is a dumb way to lose a sale. "check I.D" is not a signature.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? I went to Office Depot 2 days ago and the guy asked to see my ID for A DEBIT (PIN-BASED) transaction! I said "you don't need to see it." He said, "Yes I do, for all card transactions - wait! It's a debit, - no I don't!" I asked to see the manager immediately. I told him that ID is NOT required by Visa/MC. Why are you asking for ID when you are NOT qualified/required to see it? (I work for the bank and can tell a fake ID when I see it.) FWIW, the manager said that they've been able to help protect card members from potentially fraudulent transactions. If they didn't have ID, they either get it, or leave the stuff and run! The manager admitted that they are no experts by any means, but they are wanting to help protect the cardholders from the wrong people using their cards. They ask EVERYONE for their ID to use the cards. I have a feeling that it won't be long until Visa/MC eliminate the sig line and just put "Valid with proper ID".
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? What to do when asked for ID when making a CC purchase? Say thank you for asking. Show ID. Sign for purchases. Be on your merry way. Don't sweat the small stuff, save it for the homeless or sick or elderly or abused or starving or or or... Sassy
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? THAT IS CROSSING THE LINE!!!!!!!! NEVER REQUEST ID FOR A PIN NUMBER BASED SALE!!!!!!!!!!! THE PIN # IS THE ID!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? "IF" they "ELIMINATE" the signature strip...and print on the front...ID REQUIRED WITH EVERY SALE...I WILL GO ALONG WITH THE PLAN!!! But it has to be 100% FOR EVERY CARD...FOR EVERY BUSINESS!!! They would have to get together with 100% of the card issuers and 100% of the businesses and pick some date like say JANUARY 1, 2005 ALL CARDS MUST HAVE THE NEW WORDS AND OLD CARDS WOULD BE "PULLED" AND WOULD NEVER AUTHORIZE!!! That would mean EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE TO GET NEW CARDS... Issuing everybody a new card for every account that they have!!! THE LOGISTICS OF THAT WOULD BE MIND BOGGLING!!! ...and I can't even get AMEX to RE-ARRANGE my credit limits on my two cards!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? This is a true story. I went to J.C. Penney about 11 years ago and used the J.C. Penney credit card. My credit card was signed by me and they asked for an I.D. I gave them my drivers license. Then they asked me for my social security #. I was pissed but gave it to them. Then they asked for my social security card or other things to back up who I was like other credit cards or mail or a checkbook. I blew at that point, security came and then "the manager". The cashier didn't think my signature matched my drivers license. I explained to them that I am missing the top end of my right pointing finger from an accident a few months back. And I don't sign like mr. perfect anymore. They asked to see what was left of my finger and I showed them. They suggested that I should be sent another credit card and sign that one since the changes. At this point I am just standing there like huh? I was sent a new JC Penny "privledge" card with the same credit card # and was told in letter to throw the other card away. To make light of this situation now I guess Visa, Mastercard, and American Express have their I.D policys. But department store credit cards can probably ask for DNA, blood, thumbprints, or whatever they want. LOL! Ever since then I have never ever signed any credit card and just present the I.D every time.
George's blood pressure George, for goodness sakes, as I read your posts I can practically see the blood vessels popping out of the side of your head. What's up? Doc
George's blood pressure Sounds like George has I.D issues worse than me, Damn I guess his story must be damn cool.
Re: George's blood pressure ID REQUESTED ON SIGNED CREDIT CARDS is a TRIGGER I'm still the TEDDY BEAR inside...
Re: George's blood pressure George, I understand where you are coming from. I am 24 but could pass for 15 easily. I always have to present proper ID even if the card is signed. It gets annoying some time but better safe than sorry.
Re: Re: George's blood pressure I AM CALLED "THE BOUNCER" AT WORK...BUT I AM ALSO CALLED "TEDDY BEAR" I work BOTH sides...
Re: Re: George's blood pressure Don't get me started on BP~~I HAVE DOCTORS OFFICE BP!!! I'm sure you know what that is...
