Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? There you go, Sam. Finally somebody confirms the real deal. Doc
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? I still have my letters from VISA/MC (IN MY WALLET) saying a store MUST NOT ASK FOR ID ON A SIGNED CARD WHEN THE SIGNATURES MATCH AND THE NAME ON THE CARD IS THE PERSON SIGNING AND AN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER HAS BEEN OBTAINED... One persons opinion...I GUESS THEY TOLD ME WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR...JUST LIKE AMEX TOLD YOU WHAT YOU WANTED TO HEAR!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? The POLICY at my store remains...AS IS The only recent changes are NO cards used by anybody who is not in the store...(SAME WITH CHECKS) HUSBAND and WIFE can't use each-others cards...(we did allow that "IF" the last names match)...CAN'T DO THAT ANY MORE!!! (NOT MY IDEA) I did agree with that EXCEPTION~~BUT I HAD NO CHOICE...can't allow it anymore...
Ya know, last year when moving to FL, I put everything I could on my Amex. At one gas station (RV took about $80 a pop), they coded it to check ID and call in, and I had to talk to a CSR to get them to approve. That was because I had charges in 4 different states in one day - LA, AL, MS, FL. When I explained what was going on, and clerk let them know ID matched CC, I never had another problem.
When on vacation I ALWAYS carried 3 or 4 cards min. HOTEL one card CAR RENTAL one card FOOD/SOUVENIRS one card When I checked out I paid with the UNITED or DELTA cards for mileage...or DISCOVER for CASH BACK Now that I have >$5,000 on all my cards...I can use just one card for everything...BUT I STILL CARRY A BACK UP!!! Plus I always have my $100 WAL*MART/SAMS GIFT CARD (if I get in a bind)
So let me ask you this all of you guys now about the little Discovers and visa that can fit on you keychain. The purpose of those things is so that you don't have to carry your wallet therefore no I.D. Also the same with the Visa check card as that is their claim that you need no I.D as they state in the commercials.
Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? NO ID FOR PIN# TRANSACTIONS...the PIN# is the ID!!! If the keychain card is signed...NO ID...but if the store is one of those that VIOLATES THE "SPIRIT" OF THE SIGNED CREDIT CARD RULES...you may need ID... Or ask for the sale to be VOIDED and take a WALK...
Re: Re: they ask for ID with CC!What 2 do? "IF" they "ELIMINATE" the signature strip...and print on the front...ID REQUIRED WITH EVERY SALE...I WILL GO ALONG WITH THE PLAN!!! But it has to be 100% FOR EVERY CARD...FOR EVERY BUSINESS!!! They would have to get together with 100% of the card issuers and 100% of the businesses and pick some date like say JANUARY 1, 2005 ALL CARDS MUST HAVE THE NEW WORDS AND OLD CARDS WOULD BE "PULLED" AND WOULD NEVER AUTHORIZE!!! That would mean EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE TO GET NEW CARDS... Issuing everybody a new card for every account that they have!!! THE LOGISTICS OF THAT WOULD BE MIND BOGGLING!!! ...and I can't even get AMEX to RE-ARRANGE my credit limits on my two cards (2.5 MONTHS)!!! SEE THIS???------>I WILL GO ALONG WITH THE PLAN!!! NO OPINIONS FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE ISSUE???
Re: Re: Re: George's blood pressure GEORGE! Whatever side you are on at the moment (cough) you will ALWAYS be one of my favorite creditnetters. It's that simple. It's that complex
Re: George's blood pressure GEORGE, I don't like being carded either. And there are one or two restaurants here that card everyone. Sometimes I don't take my wallet in with me--my husband can put it on his credit card. So they don't want to serve me alcohol. Now, it's not that I look underage--I'm over half a century old!! BUT--maybe you can explain this one. The only place I get asked for ID anymore is at Wal*Mart. Most of the time I'm using my Wal*Mart card, not a Visa or MC. And most of the time it's late at night, too. But I still think it's strange. Is there a company policy on this?
Re: Re: George's blood pressure UNSIGNED~~ID REQUIRED SIGNED~~NO ID REQUIRED If they have to type in the card number on WAL*MART store card...ID REQUIRED ***NO BOOZE~~NO LOSS...I DRINK PEPSI ON THE ROCKS!!!
Re: Re: George's blood pressure Mine is signed and they don't have to type it in. I thought maybe it was because I shop at like 1 AM or so. One cashier told me that they have to ask for ID for all credit cards, but I've been in many times and not been asked for my ID. I personally think it has to do with how many people are in line and how busy the store is.
Re: Re: Re: George's blood pressure 1 am or 12 noon DOESN'T MATTER...SIGNED CARD~~SIGNATURE MATCHES SIGNATURE SLIP~~NAME ON CARD MATCHES SIGNATURE~~NO ID REQUIRED BUT at cashiers discression...ID MAY BE REQUIRED if the person does NOT "LOOK" right... I had a black lady with a card that said like MARY CHANG...I ASKED FOR ID...she was MARY CHANG...(it was because of the name...NOT because she was black) I also had a young lady who signed her name as a BUNCH of connected 1/2 OVERLAPPING circles (20-30)...ID MATCHED Cashier always has discression TO A POINT...
NJ law Just saw this in NJSA 56:11-17 No person which accepts a credit card for a consumer transaction shall require the credit card holder, as a condition of using a credit card in completing the consumer transaction, to provide for recordation on the credit card transaction form or any other form, any personal identification information that is not required by the issuer to complete the credit card transaction, including, but not limited to, the credit card holder's address or telephone number, or both; provided, however, that the credit card holder's telephone number may be required on a credit card transaction form if the credit card transaction is one for which the credit card issuer does not require authorization. Take it for what it is worth. 56:11-18 provide for the following penalty: Any person who violates any provision of this act shall be liable to a civil penalty of not more than $250 for the first offense and not more than $1,000 for the second and each subsequent offense. Any penalty imposed pursuant to this section shall be collected by summary proceedings instituted by the Attorney General in accordance with "the penalty enforcement law," N.J.S.2A:58-1 et seq. So I guess we can't sue them ourselves Guess I'll have to stick with CAs.
Re: NJ law I don't think this is a law - NJSA is some kind of organization - but the servers (theirs and the yahoo search caches version) are so darned slow I really don't want to go any further checking it out. Feel free. http://66.218.71.225/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=NJSA&url=OtTLHMspi2wJ:www.njsa.com/
Re: NJ law NJSA is NEW JERSEY STATUTES ANNOTATED Title 56 is: TRADE NAMES, TRADE-MARKS AND UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES 56:11-17 is specifically titled: Personal identification information not required for credit card transaction
