Local news reports that they stopped a white van in the west end of Richmond and have detained at least one occupant.

Re: They may have caught the sniper OK. from local NBC affiliate: the person they took into custody called the phone number from the note left for police at the last shooting location. He called from a phone booth in Henrico county - west of Richmond. They said this person definitely is the one who placed the call. The phone booth is covered up with a tarp, they have taken the van, and they are still investigating.

People are frightened and concerned, but the constant news coverage and additional shootings....we have accepted it as a part of life (that's the really sad part). The schools have been in lockdown and alot of outdoor events have been cancelled, but the rest of us continue (although somewhat cautiously). The thing to do is to put life in perspective (my hubby was admitted to the hospital last week...so I have been doing alot of reflecting lately) and you live life for the moment. Any of us could go at any second. Enjoy it while it lasts. Dani
Re: They may have caught the sniper CNN just said the bus driver died. I think the sniper is immediately gets on the interstate and then turns off upon reaching the the next exit so as to avoid the dragnet which always ensues.

Re: They may have caught the sniper They were questioned and then released...basically just at the wrong place at the wrong time. They were found to be undocumented workers and did not have any association with the serial murderer. Dani
Re: They may have caught the sniper Unfortunately, he (they) is/are getting much bolder. They are starting to point toward the residential districts and veering further from the interstates. At this point they/he are laughing at the local & federal law enforcement. The only way this guy will get caught is if he wants to or gets sloppy. Closing the streets around here I think is the stupidest thing they can do. What happens if it is actually terrorists and they go into DC? Do they know how many people will not be able to escape because 495, 95, 270, Route 1, and 395 are shutdown? Dumb. Dani
Re: They may have caught the sniper If the cops had something, they wouldn't be playing games asking the guy to call a phone number. This is really sad, that one wacko can basically lay seige to an entire city. Just imagine for a moment of this really was a terrorist operation (which I doubt it is, and my doubt grows stronger with each shooting). There could be dozens of guys like this running around the country, killing at will. How do you fight a "war on terror" against an attack like that?

Re: They may have caught the sniper I think we ought to reserve judgment on what law enforcement is doing to catch this person. Too much information has already gotten out, most likely, and they would be smarter to control the information a little more. There's some speculation that the threat of the surveillance planes had him moving more out of the DC area. Sometimes the press does more harm than good. I agree it's probably not a terrorist - they like to kill a lot of people at once, not pick them off one by one. We certainly have enough wackos in the world. But who knows? IMO, It's not that different from any other serial killer - just more random, I think, so affects everyone instead of just one group of people. And this one is near where I live.
