Hi all, this year has been hell financially. Long story short, I fell behind on my bills due to a massive gambling addiction. I'm getting help for the addiction, but, I did major damage to my finances, fell behind on everything, had payroll garnishments, etc. While trying to get things back on track, I lost my job. Good times, eh? The company financing my car has really been lenient with me, but, I'm so far behind that they can't hold the loan out anymore. So, they are coming to get the car this evening. Truth of it is, I would not be able to afford it on my UI benefits payments anyway, so, I guess it's for the best. I've already closed my checking & savings accounts. At this point, it feels like my credit is beyond repair. I'm just in survival mode right now. My primary concern right now is, can any of my creditors touch my unemployment benefits? Any helpful advice will be very much appreciated.
They would need to get a court order to garnish anything (if your state allows garnishment of UE you need to check) however by the time they went through the whole lawsuit process you would most likely have exhausted your UE benefits.
Thanks for the responses Ruger & KHM. I checked and UI benefits are exempt from garnishments in Nevada, thank God. So, now, I just need to slowly try to get things back on track.
Good luck Zippy! I'm sorry to hear about all you've been going through this year. Hopefully better times are awaiting you in the near future.
