you know I had to weigh in on this one!

This is crazy, who ever wrote this letter , should have consulted with their legal counsel first because , this letter is ridiculous and this thinly veiled threat sounds like a special bonus for you LKH for intentional infliction of emotional distress. My opinion only!!!! Contact an attorney!

I believe whoever is doing this is sending a message not just for you but for the whole board and its a tactic to instill fear or doubt in others who are thinking of suing.

He or she knew that once you got this letter, you would inform the board, and that we would all be piping mad at this invasion of privacy,(oh yeah another to add to your suit, LKH).

That is the main reason I think the person mentioned creditnet in the letter.

Well I hope it has an opposite effect than what they hope for and that this board blasts them even more.

I am still amazed they would even admit they montior the board, that was stupid on he or shes part to show their hand. Unless like I said earlier, it was sent to deter others from suing them.

    Good luck LKH!

Maybe its time to take the letter to the press. Would do good for this board to get some coverage, and put the smack down on TU. When their pretty threat letters are aired in paper/online/tv they will know whos your daddy!

Good idea Sam. If it were me and I recievied a letter of this sort, I would have a lawyer contacting TU and naming the signator( person who signed the letter) making it clear that I was looking at filing a civil suit and and going public with the letter. LKH definitely has a case here. He would never have to worry about having good credit or bad credit,he'll own TU.

    No but we can BOYCOTT their clients { Ie the folks who report to them.}

We could try to get lenders to avoid certain CRA's. Suppose we complained every time a bank pulled an Experian report, for example. They might listen after a while.

Corporations are usually affraid of these types of board for one reason...if there are so many complaints about their company consumers will boycott. Why do you suppose the CRA's montior these boards and threaten to take action for people speaking about their Corp? It isn't as if we can boycot them or write them out of our lives...I believe it is because they know that the louder we scream foul, make complaints and the right people hear enough of us...The Attorney General's of our States and the FTC will them step in and regulate, amend laws that they don't want amended and force them to make expensive changes.

Why else would they care what we consumers say about them?

I agree Denise. They lobby long and hard, insisting that everything is hunky-dorey, that the system is fine the way it is. They poo poo organizations like PIRG with their statistics. But when real consumers get together and document error after error, and the real situation gets out, the chances of tighter regulation increase a lot.

PBM can see the domains of board visitors. It would be fascinating to see who has been reading here.

That is not a request BTW. Probably better we don't see it, haha.

    Confirmation of LKH's TU letter

    Dear Members,

LKH was kind enough to provide us with a copy of the TU letter he received. As best as we can tell the document is authentic. The last sentence in the letter concerns his participation on Creditnet and was quoted verbatim by LKH.

Incidentally, we cannot deny the satisfaction we get from seeing our name mentioned in the letter. It means we are doing something right. It means "Power to the People" is not just some meaningless slogan. It means that you, as members of the Straight Talk community, are making a real difference.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,
    pbm

It is satisfying to us too, as members!! Getting a reaction is the ultimate proof that this board is successful! Thanks TU.

It also means one of the board's registered users is a TU agent who was able to link a member's nickname to a true name and address.

I'm not concerned about their legal threats; I am concerned about their privacy threats.

    One Question....

Why would a CRA be so stupid to let someone on to them watching us?

That would serve no beneficial purpose to them. If they are policing the activity here, letting us know that they are watching absolutely defeats their purpose. I mean does an undercover cop call the person they are watching and say "Oh by the way just to let you know...I am watching you." Nope. I just don't get their method to their madness....

My opinion is... that the CRA's want to learn of any information they can of possible current and future "plaintiffs" as well as intimidate consumer's into being quiet. By mentioning as they did to LKH, that they are aware of his comments and they will possibly take further action is, to me, a form of intimidation.

Actually, I think it is very likely they monitor the boards regularly. When working in credit counseling we had representatives specifically assigned to monitor websites of competitors, message boards etc.

Cross Country bank actually tried to take legal action against a message board (http:/www.jerrydj.com) and have managed to have the webmaster's web server providers shut down the board several times by sending threatening letters to them.

Well, I guess I don't have to worry much about the CRAs and any potential threats.
In fact they ought to love me because I don't do credit repair. So nothing I post actually pertains that much to them.

I am currently asking them to verify various items, but I seldom ever dispute anything they have on their systems. I simply tell them how it has to be, usually wiped off because the debts don't exist and so they have no choice but to comply. I'm not screwing with them in the way the credit repair experts are doing.

Let them go after the credit repair experts as far as I am concerned, I do debt repair so it's not the same thing at all.

Denise, It is a form of intimidation as you have stated. Being that it is, what is your opinion on whether they would actually go through with legal action?
