When I graduate in May, I'd like to add a couple cards to my batch. I'll apply in June for them on my own after I'm 18. Here's the two I have right now: 1. ICCU Visa, 11.89% fixed apr, No fees, 25 day grace, $300 limit, Opened 07/00' 2. Capital One Visa Gold (upgraded from high school card, don't ask me how, I called and they did it), 12.9% fixed apr, No fees (annual or monthly), 25 day grace, $2000 limit, raised from $1000 in sept 01', Opened 09/00' I was thinking of the Discover card to start out. I have a cousin who is a sophomore in college and has had this card since he graduated. He's been very happy with it and likes the cashback. I wouldn't carry a balance on it with the two-cycle billing. Also, I don't really want a card you have to pay any fees for. By the time I apply for another card, I'll have two full years of positively established credit history with two credit card accounts and an auto loan with 1 1/2 year's payment history. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
After WINNING THE WAR WITH DISCOVERCARD...I still like them... But the I can't get CITIBANK, JUNIPER, GETSMART, and CAPITAL ONE...
I have not been impressed with Discover Card. Closed my account after six months. I would look towards going with Citibank.
Discover pulled a "First USA" on me...waited till I ran up a large balance and then jacked my rate up to 22%! I transferred the balance to my Citi card and said buh-bye to Discover. I did get a tempting offer for a Platinum card for them, though...would be good for BT's at 0% thru July '02 (go-to 12.99%, not bad). Anybody know what score you need to get this card? My FICO is 689.
I have a Discover card. Their are pros and cons to having one. Good points - cash back (tiered of course), decent customer service, on line payments. Cons - high interest rate, stingy with credit lines, credit lines are based on your credit report (hard inquiry) other than your account performance with them, two cycle billing. Hope this helps. Thanks Dani. I was just looking for a little variety in my wallet, besides the conventional Visa and Mastercard. Maybe it would be better to try a store card or something. Any recommendations on that?
Looking for a little variety in your wallet? I suggest printing this page and reducing it on a Kinko's photocopier at 25%: http://members.aol.com/wetland/sopranos.jpg Doc
