Timing of goodwill letter

I paid my car pmt late in January because one of my kids was in the hospital. All of my bills got behind because I spent the 2 weeks with him in the PICU. Today, a 30-day late showed up on my CR. It's extremely important to me to not have any lates on this account. I bought the car in August 2002, so the loan is still pretty new.

I'm thinking about trying the goodwill letter to see if they will remove the 30-day late TL. Would I have a better chance of having the negative removed after I've made several more on-time payments on the account, or should I send the letter right away?

    Any thoughts?

I would maybe call them. Since you've never been late before and have a good and current relationship with them if you explain the situation maybe they would consent to change the TL. Obviously this was an extenuating circumstance which has never happened before and is not likely to happen again. They may possibly be understanding, and if the first person you speak with is not then ask to speak with a supervisor and see if that helps.

Thank you, toothfairy. I'll definitely consider calling them instead of writing a letter.
